Problem: Unable to resign because I have to give account of devices and equipments I was incharge of

May be you should not have applied for the position of INCHARGE if you had no idea what the posting entails.

How many cents do u want to bet that you lied on your resume regarding your experience?
Let me explain by analogy. Suppose you are a professor/lecturer of some college or a teacher of some school, you would surely try to prevent college/school property's (benches, desk, table etc. of classroom) damage by controlling undisciplined students. But would you keep a written record of property (number of benches etc.) unless you are specifically told to do so?

.
My fate will be known in about 1 to 1.5 months. They are going to do thorough inspection of all systems. If I emerge safe, I will have money to login to PDF again.

Else, Goodbye in advance.

Dear Mods,

Let this thread be in world affairs section because many people around the world may be having similar problems.

Even getting fired from any job or resigning is not easy because while leaving, you have to give account of all the devices and equipments you were incharge of.

At the time of joining, I didn't know that you are responsible for not only the property but also the records of all items. I didn't know that there is such thing as stock book. Nobody told me that whenever you receive any device or equipment for the lab you are alloted, you have to mention it in stock book.

Now the two problems are:

1. I joined a polytechnic college as a lab instructor in Department of Mechanical Engineering. I was incharge for one computer lab. Then after few months, another computer lab already furnished with additional computers was added to our department (Mechanical Engg Dept). I didn't bother to enter the records of newly acquired computers because I was inexperienced and had no knowledge of the concept of stock book. As I said before, nobody educated me that you had to enter the information about newly acquired computer systems in stock book. So I don't know what should I say if they ask an account of number of computers in the stock book.

2. Now another problem. This is a different matter. Don't connect this with above point no. 1. Recently, suddenly, out of 61 systems, some 20 odd systems have got damaged. I don't know the cause – voltage fluctuations or student mischief. Whatever be the reason, they would think that all systems didn't get damaged together all at once but it started to happen one by one. They may ask, "What were you doing these many days when they were getting damaged one by one?" They may not even believe my words because of my poor image.

WHAT SHOULD I DO?

Brother, it seems that problem is from Management side and they should give you job responsibility, which they fail to do that. Now my question is to you, did you ever received any instructions in the regard that you have to maintain record for the same?. Second thing i want from you is to go to account department and as document, related to computers of your Lab. They must have record for that. You also must asked them how to calculate depreciation method adopt by the organization. Normally for computers people put life of computer from 3 to 7 or some times 8 years (in case of servers). So if these computers exceed that limit then you have to pay nothing because they already pass the life of that product.
Feel free to ask any management level problems

.
There is a difference of 5 systems (5 extra systems physically present but no mention of it in stock book).

The inspection was done by kind and friendly colleagues. But despite all their efforts to help me they would have to tell the truth to higher-ups (like HOD and Principal).

your point 2 :
computers are fragile things. students can be assholes or learning to do cybersecurity and make mistakes. you are not responsible for the costs of losses like that, the schools' budget department should keep reserve money for accidents like these.

your point 1 :
go to court and make your case that you are not to be indebted aka saddled-with-debt, *because* nobody instructed you properly on how to keep proper records to begin with. that is another loss for that college's budget department. always be very polite and patient with any Judge, and give the Judge *plenty* of time to think. The Judge asks the questions, you answer *honestly* and *briefly* (short sentences, not too many paragraphs per answer you give the Judge).

The relevant rule here is 'Might is Right'. The rich and the powerful can do anything according to their whims. Nobody questions them. This management has the temerity to ask full original price even if the computers date back to 1990s.

There was an incident 5 years ago when one college staff had to pay for stolen monitors in his room. He grumbled but couldn't do anything.

learning to do cybersecurity and make mistakes
By student mischief I mean theft and/or physical damage of mouse, keyboards, RAMs etc by using deliberate excessive force on it's keys. What has it got to with learning cyber security?

Then you can asked for registered case and i will fight. See you in the court and your security department will also answered for that. It is responsibility of them to make sure nothing goes wrong. I will call media. Please record these conversation secretly and try to have conversation via email or other media, it will give you material for your defense. All the time try to be cool and try to convince them and even they reply harshly keep your head cool and make all videos for that. According to laws, they can't touch you if those hardware are junk. If you have any advocate friend or someone in police, try to have a word with him or her. Take guidelines from multiple source and then act clean.

Quit that job and forget about that experience certificate. There will always be a lacuna, if you know you are not at fault and find people are pinning it on you.

File a harassment complaint and start looking for another job.

And also forget about Provident Fund. But I think they are such people that they may turn up at home.

You can appeal to Labour court. Find a lawyer who has common sense and go with him during your negotiations with the management.

Its clear you do not have the brains to pull this off. At least have the brains to find a good lawyer who can get you off.
