Our topic was Nawaz Sharif belittling his own army in front of the PM of an enemy country. What has two power centers got to do with this? Lets not run in circles shall we. In my initial post i said Nawaz is fully capable of delivering such remarks because of his past history with the army. He is by law under oath to protect Pakistan and its institutions and not bash them in front of heads of enemy states. You seem to justify this act by seeing through the Indian lens however if you try to look at it from a neutral aspect, you will realize that this is an act of treachery. Being the PM you are suppose to protect and defend Pakistan and its institutions and belittle and humiliate them.

During his speech in the UN he was praising all the institutions that are protecting the interests of Pakistan and then he belittles the army does he even know what stance he holds obviously he doesn't even have the guts to stand up to foreign pressure as well.

Nawaz is a liar when he says he wasn't aware of Kargil so no army never undermined him. In fact it was the other way round when he refused to allow a PIA plane to land in Pakistan which was also carrying than the army chief Musharraf and instead ordered it to land in India. Is this what the PM should suppose to do, tell your army cheif to go land in an enemy country. And please don't bring the recent LOC flareup as this will derail the discussion further. You are putting the blame solely on PA....really?
Nawaz's attitude since this flareup is pathetic to say the least and i can go on and on but for now you can see how the prime minister of India behaves when Pakistan does something and than compare that with the attitude of Nawaz and maybe you will understand where i am coming from. Let me repeat Nawaz's attitude is undermining the security of Pakistan. He hasn't changed a bit nor has he learned anything from the past. He has a personal agenda and interest with India and what better way to promote that other than bashing PA.

I am not surprised by Sharif's latest venture of belittling his army to prove he is a better man.

I went through, no I am still going through a horrible experience, perhaps it makes sense for me to question the army for not being able to protect me even though all I have done in my life is sing songs of praise for them but in anyway I do not believe that insulting the army in front of our neighbours will do anything good. It only proves how ununited we are.

The leaders of the Pakistani nation should be careful when they speak. The army is not a punching bag or a whipping boy for them.

The present flare-up(s) on the LOC are the the machinations of GHQ. Its the only way that Mian Nawaz Sharif can be told by the "Deep State" to stay out of GHQ's turf.

This assumes even more importance given that the COAS in PA is due to turn-over to his successor soon.

Somehow; all this just seems to demonstrate: that in Pakistan, "the more things seem to change, the more they remain the same".

Belittling the Pakistani Army was undoubtedly a wrong move especially as he was before the international community and holding talks with Pakistan's perceived adversary --India. No matter what internal politics are , they should stay under wraps.

However what is worrying is that the Indian Establishment has known this fact all along , that the only institution that matters in Pakistan is the army. So why negotiate with Sharif in the first place ? That really wouldn't achieve anything.

Rather if discussions are held with Army folk ( since its quite clear that they heavily influence foreign policies vis-a-vis India) such as General Kayani or maybe a panel of Military/Ex military personnel , it would be far more fruitful.

Its not an unheard of idea since behind the scenes , American's have been dealing with the PA for a long time. The Indian establishment really needs to look into this angle.

Some interesting observations
1-All sources including the original source, India today, has not accessed the document but rather referring to a third source "Mail today" accessing the document so the main source indirectly has not accessed the document first hand.
2- The reporter Saurabh Shukla is a warmonger reporter specializing in producing anti-Pakistan content. However, the way he has twisted the story which would have been otherwise, is interesting.

3- The headline is made out of an ambiguous comment (especially more interestingly so because this so called Surabh Shukla has mentioned that he hasn't accessed the document. Here goes the main content including the remark.

Sharif again revised his proposal and suggested that talks can be at the level of the Director General of Military Operations and the Foreign Office, which was also declined by Singh.

This was reported in National press.
Please note that Nawaz Sharif made the offer of solving it using official means. Now the response of Manmohan is very very interesting

It was then that the Indian Prime Minister repeated his assertion that those who have caused the incidents on the Line of Control and the International Border will have to resolve it

So effectively its Manmohan Singh who has surrendered before Indian Army by saying that let the both armies resolve it in their usual way. In other words, He confessed his inability to control the Indian Army.

, and that militaries both countries should be involved.

This reaffirms my point. Who else was involved in LoC crossfire? Angles? No only and only military of the both side. And this was a confession by Manmohan Singh that he is helpless in controlling the Indian Army. Remember, that the war hysteria created in India subsequent to LoC crossfire was actively aided by Indian Army.

It was then Sharif signed off with the remark reposing mistrust in his own army, telling Singh that India had more faith in their capabilities than he did.

Now be mindful that this is in continuation of previous point that both militarizes should solve the issue rather than pre-established channels (like DGMOs). Nawaz replied to his comment that Manmohan may have faith that military on the both sides could solve it, but he didn't think so.

Why was there no press conference after the meeting? It was because NS already knew that Indian PM had no bargaining chips in his hand and reluctantly didn't proceed ahead with any significant offer. Even the analysts on Pakistani Media said the same thing that Manmohan had nothing to offer to his Pakistani counterpart and thus the negotiations will only be a formality.
