This has nothing to do with anything. And fake stays, Petrol isn't 103 Rs per litre, check CNG prices, Atta is slightly more expensive than 36, but it was more than 10 when we took over. Sugar prices change and declines with seasons, cooking oil was never that cheap.

My point though, is that we didn't increase GST and Electricity Unit price in the same year. And when we incresed electric price, we decresed GST. Unlike Nawaz

Pakistan income and property tax rates are extremely low compared to developed countries. That's why the government has no money to do anything, because the rich politicians make sure they don't have to pay too much taxes.

And, even for the taxes which are due, Pakistan's collection rates are low even by developing world standards, never mind the developed world.

1- Just 10% income tax increase, that too on ultra rich section (which includes majority of Media Anchors), have brought a storm in media. Just look at Sir Talat Hussain's column today how he has written a full column on a just this single point. If you want more proof of this, just tune into any news show and you can see anchors thundering on this "unjust" 10% increase in taxes. In reality however, if we look at the income tax structure, no additional burden was put upon lower and middle income groups since their welfare is more prone to tax rate change than rich and ultra rich people. The purpose of this whoe thing was just to show that how difficult it is for the government to increase tax (something which is inevitable).
2- Many politicians evade taxes by earning more agricultural income. Interesting thing in this regard is that agricultural income is a provincial tax now post 18th amendment and provinces are free to raise agricultural tax domestically. However, in FY12, only two provinces (Punjab 70 million PKR and Sindh around 30 Million PKR) raised agriculture tax. This forced the central government in FY13 to consider agricultural income for taxation since provinces lacked the will to tax agriculture. Do you know what is the effective tax rate being paid by super rich Jahangir Tareen? just 3% (on an income of 822 million). This is because majority of his income is earned through agriculture income. Even Imran Khan earned a considerable chunk of his income from agriculture. So those who supposedly raise voice for taxing agriculture are also among the beneficiaries.
2-PTI's first budget is expected to be a "Tax-Free" budget. Now if this happens that would mean that all the slogans of raising more taxes were shallow and PTI would prove no better than PPP which just resorted to easy way of minting money through debt (in case of PTI, staying dependent upon the centre for their financial support)

Absolutely, many segments of society are guilty on that front. No one likes to pay tax, and everyone will use all available loopholes. That's just human nature.

I think 2013 is a joke budget!!
They should impose more tax, Instead of imposing tax, today they are announcing 10% increase in salary.
We need tight belt. No need of increase in salary, also we should impose tax on sugar mills, diary live stock etc....
2 million literate people are already unemployed. Stipend plan is also a joke because 25 age is restricted for Master level. So no hope of already literate unemployed people!!

Our PPP government has been doing more in the Budget, but we were hated on every budget. May it be remembered that we did not raise power prices AND GST at the same time in any budget. GA Bhutto!
