ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has prohibited parliamentarians, federal ministers and other officials from going on unnecessary foreign tours.

According to sources, Prime Minister Sharif has directed concerned departments to ensure that there is a 30 percent decrease in foreign tours. Directives have also been given to seek permission from the concerned authority prior to the tour. Federal Ministers will require permission from the Prime Minister, MNAs from the Speaker of the House and Senators from Chairman Senate.

The prime minister secretariat has prepared a summary in this regard which also includes recommendation to decrease the cost of foreign tours by 40 percent.

. . .
I wonder how much of government's money was spent by Hina Rabbani Khar for foreign tours. :coffee:

Enough with the trivial sideshows.

Where's his grand vision?

What will he do about sectarian extremists?
What will he do to raise revenue and get Pakistan off foreign aid/loans?
What is his policy (not just appointments) to fix law enforcement, education, justice system?

Do keep in mind that they created a federal cabinet, where ministers including Khawaja Asif, Khawaja Saad Rafique, Shahid Khaqqan Abbasi and Chaudhary Nisar refused to accept salaries and other benefits. The similar proposal was made by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to cut down his expanditure. Now you hear ban on unecssary foreign tour....

Basically if you have any sense, this is supposed to be symbolic. It shows that the team is committed and wants to work like an ordinary man with simplicity.

We are humans and so are politicians. Not everything would be done in 1 week. The major focus right now has been the economy, especially the budget and load shedding. Because you seem too much concerned about security, let me just tell you that there have been 3 meetings between Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and General Kayani. The PM's adviser had publicly acknowledged that he would be visiting Afghanistan on this Month and John Kerry's visit in a couple of weeks to discuss troop pull out.

The salary is a pittance compared to the tax holiday enjoyed by Pakistan's ultra rich. Any plans to close loopholes and raise income/property taxes so Pakistan can put away the begging bowl?

As an American citizen, Khwaja Asif must file US income tax returns on his worldwide income and properties. Is he paying his taxes to Pakistan?

How about the others?

this is supposed to be symbolic.

Yes, enough with the symbolism. Let's see some meat on real issues of corruption, tax evasion and various other ills.

Not everything would be done in 1 week.

We are not talking about results, but policy roadmaps.

security,

I wasn't referring to the Taliban, but to sectarian extremists within Pakistan who enjoy immunity and even patronage from the political elites.

Our PPP government has been doing more in the Budget, but we were hated on every budget. May it be remembered that we did not raise power prices AND GST at the same time in any budget. GA Bhutto!

You mean the renovation going on at Chaudhary Nisar's office? In the order of millions of rupees?

Pakistan income and property tax rates are extremely low compared to developed countries. That's why the government has no money to do anything, because the rich politicians make sure they don't have to pay too much taxes.

And, even for the taxes which are due, Pakistan's collection rates are low even by developing world standards, never mind the developed world.
