分享一下我的个人经验，25年前的那场动荡，可以说我是一个懵懂的经历者，但是我看了所有的电视直播，我很清楚当时发生了什么。20年前1994年我读高中的时候，当我坐在大礼堂前听市军区的一个少将演讲时，有一段讲到未来世界的格局问题，现在我们国力、军力还较弱，但是未来我们要与俄罗斯、欧洲一道构建一个多极世界，也就是说我们也要成为世界重要力量的一员，最终我们要.....省略号你清楚的。TMD过来20年我还记忆犹新，现在就是这样一个情况，国家的走向是早已经规划好了的！

Which is crazy. It's probably true that Taiwan retain a better traditional Chinese culture, but that doesn't mean squat. CPC is making china strong economically and militarily, that is all i really concern about.
Once China is on par with the west in science, economy and tech, you will see the export of Chinese culture.

If comparing the movies/dramas made by both side, I don't think Taiwan has retained a better traditional Chinese culture than the Mainland China.

Most Taiwanese celebrities are Christianized, and I don't think that the Christians can retain the better traditional culture.

Let's ignore politics for now since its too sensitive. I want to discuss what "nostalgia" is.

Nostalgia seems to be a universal human phenomena, but why do human possess this emotion? How can we explain it from an evolutionary psychological perspective?

I've read plenty of evolutionary explanation for other universal human emotions. For example the emotion of love and fear:

1. Love = the human specie possess this emotion through natural selection. It helps humans to find mating partners in order to copulate and reproduce. It also makes parent care properly for their offspring. Thus, it promotes the survival of the specie.

2. Fear = Again, humans possess this emotion because it promotes the survival of the specie. The emotion of fear help humans to be aware of and stay away from danger.

But what about the emotion of Nostalgia? Why do humans possess this emotion? I can't figure out how nostalgia would promote the survival of the specie. Most other universal emotions can be both backward looking and forward looking. Forward looking emotions promote progress and survival. Nostalgia is exclusively backward looking.

I can't seem to understand this universal human emotion from an evolutionary perspective. How can we explain nostalgia in terms of natural selection and survival of the specie?

Or did God/Allah programmed this emotion of nostalgia into the human race in order to remind us that there is something much more important than survival and development?
