As far as my memory goes...APJ Abdul Kalam, Pratibha Patil, Shankar Dayal Sharma and now Pranab Mukherjee.

When I think about him only negative thoughts come to my mind - may I am prejudiced but here is what I could reason with.

He is a master at making compromises and provides a favor to other politicians and encashes it at a later date. Kind of like Godfatherish character. And how can one get along with the everyone including the crooks in politics like Sharad Pawar especially when one is in a position of power?

And he is not for reforms - if not, a person who can make things happen why couldn't he pull off the reforms by working it out with other politicians who he shares a personal relationship?

His role in emergency is suspect. Supporting Sanjay/Indira.

President of India does not interfere in policy decesions or state policy matter. But in times of War or Emergency he will get all the powers to run the state.
Pranab Mukerjee has lot of experience in dealing with Crisis and a perfect fit for president.
The rise of China and pakistan's reluctance to indian peace initiatives gives India a lot of Challenges in future in that point of view I cheer for Pranab Mukerjee.

The recent reluctance by pakistan in the issue of Rann of kutch. Actually both the nations came very close to resolving it but as usual pakistan backed off.
These bilateral talks between India and pakistan are always follow the same circle
