For the sake of continuation of the democratic process, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) is playing the role of a firefighter by persuading Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to shun its planned million-man march on August 14 against alleged rigging in general polls last year. Parliamentary sources in the PPP revealed to Daily Times that the PPP, despite supporting PTI over its complaints about rigging in general elections last year, is concerned about the way things are shaping up on the political front. Syed Khursheed Shah of the PPP, who is opposition leader in the National Assembly also asked PTI’s Shah Mehmood Qureshi to review the decision of the long march when both met a couple of days back to discuss the appointment of chief election commissioner (CEC). Shah Mehmood Qureshi, however, replied that he can only convey the request of the PPP to the party, whose core committee is authorised to take any decision on it, sources said. On the other hand, the government is also eyeing PPP’s help to convince the PTI to refrain from going for the long march, as it is finding it difficult to talk to Imran Khan, who is not in the mood to listen to anything from the government’s side. PPP’s Central Information Secretary Qamar Zaman Kaira also favours the viewpoint that situation is not ripe for agitation, as the country cannot afford it at this critical juncture when it is in a state of war. When asked about Khursheed Shah and Shah Mehmood Qureshi meeting, Kaira said that as he is no more a part of parliament and is not aware of it. However, he opined that the general view is in favour of avoiding confrontation at this important moment. He said PPP fully endorses the reservations of Imran Khan about general elections.

I am more in favour of finding a middle ground, i.e., agreement on overhaul of election commission, biometric machines for all future polling and other steps to ensure rigging free elections in the future. The country trueky cannot afford such level of political instability at this juncture even if it's for the right reasons in my humble opinion.

PPP & PML-N are united against Pakistan & Pakistan interests. Both are supporting & have supported each other in the past & both have harmed Pakistan in every possible way. This dramabazi by both will not work & they will INSHAALLAH pay for their crimes against Pakistan.

Naseebo league can only imagine about such stuff. No surprise there.

PTI has moved at least 3 bills in national assembly for election reforms, nothing happened. Our lawmakers have raised the issue a gazillion times in parliamentary question sessions, nothing happened. The committee formed by govt to review election reforms and propose recommendations, addressed Parliament that electronic voting and election reforms cannot be implemented in Pakistan because our people are Jahil. :hitwall: And recommended that our election system should remain like this without any reforms what so ever.

Govt is not even ready to give overseas Pakistanis their right to vote, which is already ordered by Supreme Court also. What option PTI is left with after trying so hard for more than one year with all available options in hand?

PTI doesn't believe in violence, our history of peaceful protests and non-violent struggle is a testimony of it. But if a large section of Pakistan society is to be denied their rights like this, then people will eventually come to streets. Votes verification and rechecking constituencies is right of any candidate who participate elections, it is all legal. We've already waited for around 15 months, peacefully demanding votes verification. If PTI comes to street with protests all over the country, then only Govt, ECP and Election Tribunals are to be blamed.

Remember, as per ECP itself, Election Tribunals were to do votes verifications and solve all election rigging related cases within 4 months after elections. Today around 15 months are gone, with zero progress. Who is to be blamed for this mess?

And what if it never happen ? Apna moun kala kar k road pe phiroo ghey

Like what showbaz sharif did after breaking almost gazillions of promises he made so violently in public? Yea right!!
