KARACHI: An explosion near Essa Nagri in Karachi on Saturday evening targeted
Metropolitan Commissioner Matanat Ali Khan’s convoy, Express News reported.

The blast destroyed a black squad car bearing a government number plate. The car was part of Khan’s entourage. A rickshaw and some motorcycles were also destroyed.

The blast injured as many as five people, including the commissioner and his guard. He has been rushed to the Liaquat National Hospital where his situation is described as ‘stable’.

Express News correspondent Nadeem Khan said that explosives had been hidden in a motorcycle parked near the road in front of the mosque and was detonated using remote control.

The explosion is reported to have taken place near a graveyard and mosque located next to Essa Nagri and near Civic Centre, the nerve centre of Karachi’s civic administration.

The sprawling exhibition hall, Expo centre is also located in the same area.

The explosion was loud enough to be heard for miles away, and a smoke cloud could be seen rising from the site.

One man tweeted that as a result of the explosion, one side of the Sir Shah Mohammad Suleman Road, the main artery that criss crosses University road, had been closed. As a result, the traffic on the road is currently jammed.

Sick mentality is of those, who after Supreme court detailed ruling which mentions disbanding political parties militant wings to have peace in karachi and still blame it on Taliban.

Three cheers for ignorants.

P.S. 09-10 (2009-2010) When anay waa target occured during ramzaan.

Ok ... TTP was in Karachi in mentioned period ... Under shelter of ANP ... Check AH's statement during that period ... Opponents were making fun of his statements ...............

Disband your militant wings, so Army don't have to move in to Karachi.

While I am all for eliminating the MQM militant wing, does your statement mean blanket support for the TTP in Karachi?
Should the Army focus on MQM first before the TTP in Karachi?

Ideally a de-politicized Police should take care of either along with any criminal element therein but like last time the SHOs & others would be targeted till the last of them have been sent to the graves but this time not by 'one' but 'two' violent elements ! I know you said, in the past, that the Army itself seems to be profiteering from all of this but I can't imagine what kind of a Corp Commander would be willing to see the City burn for a measly few million earned or that even if the Corp Commander is such an absolutely heartless basterd who pissesss on the very oath he took....how could his subordinates take this crap & not react ?

Focus should be on both or else if LEA's kept their focus on TTP, then turf wars, bullet attached letters, bhutta khouri would be continued unabated.

Wait a minute , Do Army really dare to launch an offensive in Karachi . Do not compare it with 1992 as present day local gangs are much more capable and desperate to hold their positions and regions . Not just that but they are also having support in their controlled sectors . You are indirectly speaking of inflicting a civil war on Karachiites. :raise:

I think that TTP might be involved in it,as a/c to the news, they have targeted government officer, all I can say that guilty should be hanged till death.

I don't think so that army will be ever deployed here or action like 1980's will be repeated ever again. As MQM has strong roots in Karachi's administration as well as in government sectors.

These incidents were reduced by 2% if I am not wrong, but I don't know that what was the lapse due to which all this started again,I am afraid that if situation persists, then again situation may get out of control.

Without targeting local Militant gangs they cannot launch any open action against TTP or other foreign proxy militants in Karachi, Which means that Karachi is becoming a save breeding heaven for all kind militant groups . Army could not stay away in this situation for long . Urban Guerrilla Warfare is worst kind of shape in any sense of conflict and as more time these militants get , They will get stronger and smarter.

Focus should be on both or else if LEA's kept their focus on TTP, then turf wars, bullet attached letters, bhutta khouri would be continued unabated.

But then, this practice should be done across the country.. the LEA's should stop prioritizing and simply try to spread thin in an effort to tackle whatever they can... Im sure that it will be very effective.

During the American Civil war.. smarter people like Lincoln recognized that there were massive gangs rampant in major American cities, gangs there were involved in similar extortion and crime much like the MQM.. however, due to the fact that these very gangs also proved a bullwark against the South and their supporters in the north....and simply because law enforcement agencies were not that refined yet and the priority was the war effort... there was a tacit agreement onto how much the gangs could operate.. and political forces used the gangs to get recruits for the war against the confederates. Not to say that there weren't actions taken against gangs, but it was done on a basis of priority and tactfulness rather than desperation.
Once the war was over.. the gangs were slowly targeted..and most generally marginalized and blended into society. Simply because at the time, it was recognized that the LEA's had missed their initial chance to stem these gangs.. and with the war at hand they would be spread thing if fighting the gangs and the south at the same time. So the priority was the Civil war, while maintaining s balance in the streets.
Yet, that was America..and polarized as it was even then.. Lincoln was a brilliant leader.. not burdened to bias of ethnicity or religion.. the same does not prevail in Pakistan.

Trying to get the LEAs(who are already mostly corrupt, and spread quite thin)to target a political party(which is known to play the ethnicity card..and Karachi does not start and end at Defense society..where even those results are debated and skewed)and also target a growing terrorist presence(who have previously demonstrated just how much the LEAs are afraid of them)and criminal gangs(separate from militant wings but equally or better armed and more dangerous) perhaps begs the question; aren't you asking too much?
