Federal Minister for Planning, Development, Reforms and Special Initiatives Asad Umar on Wednesday said that power generation in the country reached a record high of 23,116 Megawatts (MW) on Tuesday.

The minister said that the peak in electricity generation was 2,300MW higher than the earlier peak achieved prior to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) government.

“Yesterday a new record was created for power generation in the country. Peak generation achieved around 3pm was 23,116 MW. For comparison the highest generation level achieved prior to PTI government was 20,811 MW on July 24, 2018. The peak yesterday was 2,300 MW higher,” said Asad Umar in a tweet.

Earlier on July 6, Asad Umar had said that the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) produced the highest ever hydel electricity in 2019-20 with an increase of 20 per cent, compared to the previous year.

In a tweet, the minister said that massive hydel capacity increase is taking place with Dasu, Mohmand and Diamir Bhasha Dams being built. “We need to rely on local renewable energy instead of expensive imported thermal fuels,” he added.

Earlier, on June 25, Prime Minister Imran Khan had witnessed the agreement signing ceremony of 1,124 MW Kohala hydropower project which would be completed at a cost of $2.5 billion.

Tarbela Dam: power generation level reaches 3371 MW
APP 29 Jul 2020
TARBELA: Due to increase in water inflow the power generation level of Tarbela Dam Wednesday reached at 3371 megawatts as 16 hydropower generation units of the dam have been working properly.

As the temperatures rise in the upper parts of the Hazara division and Northern areas during the July the snow melting coupled with heavy downpour filled the reservoir with increased water inflow in the lake and also improved power generation.

During last week water storage level of the dam also reached its highest during the current year and the auxiliary spillways were opened to discharge extra water into river Indus while 16 out of 17 power generation plants were working.

According to the Tarbela Dam officials, water inflow yesterday in Tarbela dam was recorded 174000 cusecs while the outflow of the water was 135000 cruces feet.

The maximum water storage capacity of the Tarbaila dam is 1550 feet, at present water level has reached 1462.58 feet and power generation is also approaching its maximum capacity.

Since morning till now we had 3 hours unannounced loadshedding.
And we have announced loadsheding after every 2 to 3 hours.
Anyone knows whether this is due to power shortage still? Or is due to outdated infrastructure of the power grid?

More Electricity Means More Capacity Payments. For Gods Sake Start Using It
No brother its the other way around. Capacity payments we need to pay whether we generate or not. More generation means less payment per unit of capacity payment. Furthermore the energy generated is also being consumed. There is no storage system in pak
