Police station raided in west China's Xinjiang, terrorist plot suspected

URUMQI, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- The raid of a border armed police division, which killed 16 policemen and injured 16 others, in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Monday morning was suspected as a terrorist attack, according to the local police.

Two attackers drove a tip lorry to hit a team of policemen who were jogging outside the police division in a morning exercise in Kashi at about 8 a.m., police witnesses said.

Fourteen policemen were killed on the spot and two others died on the way to hospital.

The two attackers got off the lorry after the vehicle veered to hit on a roadside wire pole. They threw two grenades to the barracks, causing explosion. They also hacked the policemen with knives.

The police said the two attackers had been arrested, and one of them got a leg injury in the raid.

Police suspected a terrorist plot behind the raid.

The regional public security department had got clues suggesting that the "East Turkistan Islamic Movement" planned to make terrorist attacks during Aug. 1-8, just ahead of the opening of the Olympic Games in Beijing.

This may interest those who are far from the reality of the situation.

Islamic fundamentalists should not be taken so lightly even if there are many people of the Islamic faith outside China who are bosom friends and who have blinkers on.

There is a lot of difference between moderates and the fundamentalists.

And this is an example.

I sure hope the Islamic friends have the will and capability to help China. They have not been able to help themselves and yet, they have brave soothing cooing for China on Xingjiang!

Islamic fundamentalists should not be underestimated. They have no Nation. They have only the pride and zeal of Islam and the ummah!

These terrorist actions only prove true to the world what China has claimed abouth the threat, and could only lend Chinese Government right reasons to be more heavy-handed.

The Chinese people will believe more on CPC propaganda on this aspect and will unified further under the party’s leadership.

If the terrorists are from Tajikistan soil, SCO mechanism may be used for the Chinese to legitimately influence that area further.

It is a bad news, but could also be a blessing in disguise.

This event and history stories bear such a similarity that one can’t help but have a brief review of the history.

Historically, Chinese civilization was typically around Yellow/Yangtzi river basins (earlier than around 300BC). Threats/invaders from the North and West caused the ancient Chinese to “hot pursuit” the “barbarians” (for instance, the Huns) to empty the enemies from their dens. A typical example is Emperor Wu of Han Dynasty, who extended the Chinese territory many folds west wards along the Silk Road to make the trade and China proper safe.
