PESHAWAR: A Pakistani court on Tuesday remanded in custody a portly fertiliser dealer and teenage eunuch for allegedly trying to marry in the city of Peshawar, police said.

The alleged couple and dozens of guests were arrested when police raided a late-night party after a tip off that 42-year-old Malik Mohammad Iqbal Khan was trying to marry a 19-year-old eunuch, police said.

“We arrested the bridegroom, the would-be bride and 41 others at the wedding party,” local police station chief Shahid Khan told AFP in the working class neighbourhood of Faqir Abad in the northwestern city.

All of them were remanded in custody for one day on charges of attending an event that is “against Sharia law” and “illegal”, police said.

The fertiliser dealer, who already has two wives, denied he was marrying the eunuch, it had only been a birthday party for Rani.

“We were having a birthday party, but police arrested us. We had no intention of getting married,” he told AFP at the police station.

The furious 'bride' also insisted it had only been a birthday bash.

“I pray there should be more suicide attacks on police because they put people in trouble unnecessarily,” said Rani, who gave only one name.

Shah Faisal, a senior lawyer in Peshawar, said that police brought up the charge of “unnatural sexual offence” against the accused for which the maximum punishment was life imprisonment.

Police showed an AFP reporter a room in the neighbourhood that had been strung with lights and decked out in a style befitting newly wed couples in northwest Pakistan.

Police pointed to Rani's palms, which were covered in henna, a traditional rite of passage for brides but also performed for other special occasions.

Rani's family was paid 300,000 rupees (3,550 dollars) by Khan and another 80,000 rupees (946 dollars) to pay off a debt owed by Rani, Shahid Khan said.

Pakistan is a deeply conservative Muslim country where sex outside marriage is taboo and homosexuality illegal.

The eunuch community, which includes hermaphrodites, transsexuals, transvestites and homosexuals, is mocked, pitied and shunned by society. They frequently beg on the streets and many end up as prostitutes.

In a move toward granting the country's estimated 500,000 eunuchs rights, Pakistan's top judge has ordered the government to recognise them as a distinct gender, although how it will be implemented remains to be seen.

So whats your opinion Sparklingway..Pakistani The Pious men marry 4 wives and then justify it under Shria law...:(

There was no legal action against that gay marriage in Tirah in 2005. Nor was there any action against another gay marriage in the tribal areas some years back. They were just "asked to leave".

Why were these bunch not just "asked to leave"? The poor transgender/intersexual/transvestite is probably being harassed by the police right now, perhaps even abused.

MOD EDIT

Pakistani Police are well known for their exaggeration but this time AFP even surpassed them in that.

"500,000 enunches in Pakistan" seems FAKE. Our Pakistani members can easily vouch whether this is real or fake.

Another AFP (Assoc France Press) propaganda piece.

That means that there is a 1 eunuch for 240 Pakistani citizens. Seems kind of exaggerated, I'd say one for every 500.

Have you every surveyed a eunuch mohalla? They are a big community.

even by that account figure is almost same.

17,000,000 population of Pakistan / 500 = 3,40,000

500,000 is the figures given by article.

The simple answer to your querry is whether you believe in Islam as a way of life or not.If you dont believe, then it does not matter to you what happens. If you believe in Islam, know that Allah and his messenger(PBUH) forbid such acts and they are punishable in islam.

Anyways, amend the Muslim Family Law Ordinance 1961 and restrict marriages to a single one. Only the rich guys take in more than one wives at the same time. There can never be equality among the wives and time distributed by the husband for them when the male concerned in born in Pakistan. Our males just can't treat their four wives equally and hence ban multiple marriages.

Sparky.
I am married and have only one wife with whom i have been living happily for 2 decades now. However, i resent the idea of fiddling with the rights given to you in religion, provided you abide by the rights of the women you marry. You cannot just willy nilly amend Allah's law just because it does not suit ones tastes. There is a reason for allowing multiple marriages. We need to understand why and instead of repealing the right which Allah SWT has given us should make laws to enforce the rights of the women whose husband marry multiple times.

Bro do you know there is 1 gay/lesbian for every 10. Yes its true, Being gay in many ways is like being left-handed. Often, people associate gay men with sexual addiction. However, the majority of gay individuals are no more sexually active than heterosexuals, sometimes we prefer company of same sex for no reason. The belief that all gay men desire to be women or are feminine is merely a generalization. Homosexuals are born, not made.

Here is big fact, lesson for all -
Over 95% of child molestation is committed by heterosexual men. The overwhelming majority of homosexuals have no interest in pre-adolescent or adolescent children.

Some of my best friends are homosexual, and they are the most spiritual people I know.

My view is, that if a relationship (regardless of gender) is not based on Kaam (sexual obsession), then that relationship is fine.

and we should leave good/bad on Allah, these gay/eunuch are also his creation, so we should respect them like other human beings.

Why are there so many?
