the MV Suez captain refused to seek assistance from INS Godavari as it come too little too late!

after the earlier call for help was refused/ignored by IN when the frees vessel came under attack from pirates again, the IN navy try to contact and escort the vessel but it came only whne the atach was already denied and PNS Babur, responding to the desparete call of help from HM Suex have reacted promptly and is escorting the ship.

here is a news article from indian media itself,

New Delhi: A day after the Indian Navy ignored repeated calls for help by MV Suez, the ship released by the Somali pirates on Tuesday, the merchant vessel, today, gave the Navy a cold shoulder.

The merchant vessel did not respond to calls by INS Godavari - a Navy warship - which was dispatched last night by the Navy to escort MV Suez.

"On reaching MV Suez, INS Godavari made every effort through all available means and channels to communicate with Suez. However, the Master of MV Suez, didn't respond," the Navy said in a statement.

"After confirming that MV Suez was safe and was being escorted by other warships of coalition forces deployed in the Gulf of Aden, the Navy Ship continued escorting two other merchant vessels in the Gulf of Aden, whilst at the same time monitoring its transit in coordination with other navies," it said.

Indian government and the Navy had drawn flak from all corners for not helping out MV Suez sailors even after it came under a fresh attack by the pirates after its release.

The government had earlier put the onus of security on the owners of the ship. It is in fact Pakistan's PNS Babar that came to the rescue of the ship by providing cover for the Suez.

The merchant vessel was attacked by pirates earlier this week, causing fresh trauma for the 22-member crew that were first taken hostage last year. The crew, which includes six Indians, spent nine months in captivity.

Wasi Hasan, the Pakistani who captains the Suez, had said the crew may have to abandon the ship and hitch a ride with the PNS Babar. "The boiler in the engine room is not working, so our speed has slowed down from 15 knots to 8 knots," he told NDTV. He also said that there is eight tons of diesel left on board, not enough to get the Suez to the port of Salalah in Oman.

The Suez has four Pakistanis, one Sri Lankan and 11 Egyptians besides the Indian sailors on board.

The pirates who had taken the crew hostage had demanded 2.1 million dollars more after an initial ransom was paid. Mr Hasan says one million was paid by the ship's owner and the rest was raised in Pakistan by rights activist Ansar Burney.

The owners of the ship told NDTV yesterday that they had approached the Indian government for help. In an email to NDTV, a senior company official said, "I've contacted the (Indian) Navy, but there's no response. I have called them so many times." He says Indian officials advised him to "call the NATO hot line and ask if they have any war ship in this area for escort."
MV Suez gives Indian Navy the cold treatment

NEW DELHI: After all the hullabaloo over why India had not promptly dispatched a warship to protect MV Suez during its passage to Salalah port in Oman, missile frigate INS Godavari did sail close to the merchant vessel on Thursday but got no response from it.

Sources said the reason for the "rebuff" could be "competitive politics" since MV Suez, owned by an Egyptian company and captained by a Pakistani national, is now being escorted by Pakistani warship PNS Babar.

The entire drama over MV Suez, which has six Indians among its 22-strong crew, began on Monday after it was released by Somali pirates following the payment of a $2.1 million ransom.

Indian crew members and their families on Wednesday accused Indian Navy of not responding to their pleas for help after the merchant vessel was threatened once again by pirates. Pakistan, in contrast, rushed PNS Babar to escort MV Suez.
The government, however, said its Navy had "actively coordinated" with other foreign navies in the region to ensure "cover" to MV Suez from Tuesday itself. The only Indian warship deployed in the Gulf of Aden, INS Godavari, was at that time busy escorting two other merchant vessels, with 21 Indians on board them, through the Gulf of Aden.

On Thursday morning, INS Godavari tried to repeatedly raise MV Suez over the "mercantile marine band Channel 16" after closing in to its location but the ship's captain chose not to respond.

"After confirming MV Suez was safe and being escorted by other warships, INS Godavari continued with its original task of escorting the two other vessels. The Navy is continuously assessing the situation and monitoring all developments," said a source.

what use is the blue water navy if it cannot hear to pleas of its nationals?
what use is the growing economy of, when it can not pay for the ransom amount of innocent citizens held in captavity? instead, someone else have to collect charity and get the released!

And here comes the epic comment on the news of TOI posted by Arsalan. Epic.

Naresh(Noorchak, Bihar)

The real story behind this whole incident is posted in few different news sites, and is a blatant ploy of Pakistan to grab money from India to fund terrorism against India. (This is the typical Pakistani mindset). This how the incident played out: The MV Suez (owned by an Egyptian Abdul Mathar with strong links to Pakistani military and govt individuals), was captured by pirates who had connections to Islamic militant groups. Pakistani govt then dispatched their "special envoy" Ansar Burney to negotiate with these bad 'ol "pirates" of Somalia. Ansar Burney responded publicly that he had brought the ransom price down substantially, but India, Pakistan and the Egyptian company had to all come up with the lowered ransom. Everybody agreed and the ship was released. But shortly after release, MV Suez started broadcasting on public frequency that it was being attacked again. INS Godavari immediately responded requesting MV Suez to acknowledge, but no response was received. While INS Godavari was repeatedly responding, PNS Babur suddenly started responding and got a magical immediate (surprise!) response from the Pak captain of MV Suez. Indian naval command's radar had meanwhile picked up a helicopter leaving PNS Babur and landing personal on MV Suez, BEFORE its "distress" call began. Even after PNS Babur was in communication with MV Suez, there was still no response to INS Godavari's calls. All communication between Godavari, Babur and MV Suez was recorded on open frequency

WTF.

And people blame pakistanis for believing in conspiracy theories.

Ignore this BS by indians... we have done what we should have done to help and not get praise and applause from any1.... well done Pakistan Navy... that is what expected of you.

If the reported attack is true and I suspect that it is and the government will not confirm it just yet because once again, Pakistani armed forces were attacked and instead of annihilating their enemy, Pakistanis armed forces, true to their motto, choose to run away, not realizing that this behavior will only invite more such attacks --- but the Navy has learned much from the Army, had the Army annihilated the Talib, the Navy might have learned a different lesson.

Somehow, I really don't know how, but we have to train armed forces that have pride in themselves and their mission, instead of this mentality of "running away to fight another day" -- Attack Pakistan or Pakistani forces and be rest assured that you and yours will have a painful death, instead, "Pirates", just imagine that - but hey why not, freakin tribals kick this country's behind, so why can't "Pirates" ?

for indian, read this, this is from your media;

After Pakistan, India sends warship to escort Suez
New Delhi: The Indian government seems to have taken a cue from Pakistan. Today, it sent a Godavari class warship to protect the MV Suez, which has six Indians on board. The warship is expected to reach Suez by Thursday afternoon.

It was a Pakistani ship that came to the rescue of the Suez after the Indian Navy ignored its repeated calls for help. The merchant vessel was released by Somali pirates less than 48 hours ago. This morning, it was attacked once again by pirates. (Read: Suez crew messages about new threat at sea)

The crew of the Suez, which is owned by an Egyptian company, was held hostage for nine months before 2.1 million dollars was paid as ransom earlier this week, some of it raised via donations from Pakistan.

Indian sailors and their families had complained that the Indian Navy ignored repeated calls and messages for help.

Instead, Pakistan rushed a major naval warship, PNS Babar, to meet the Suez which is still in dangerous waters. The PNS Babar will escort the Suez to the port Salalah in Oman. That journey is likely to be completed on Friday morning.

Ansar Burney, a Pakistani rights activist, played a key role in the negotiations that led to the pirates freeing the hostages late on Monday. Mr Burney confirmed today that he had received messages from the Suez of a new attack. (Read: Families of Indian sailors thank Ansar Burney)

The owners of the ship told NDTV that they had approached the Indian government for help. In an email to NDTV, a senior company official said, "I've contacted the (Indian) Navy, but there's no response. I have called them so many times." He says Indian officials advised him to "call the NATO hot line and ask if they have any war ship in this area for escort."

here is another news article to get the facts right;
New Delhi, Jun 15: In a blow to India's face, Pakistan has come forward to help Indian sailors who are on the Navy vessel MV Suez that was released by Somali pirates after Indian Navy failed to do the same.

PNS Babar, a Pakistani Naval Ship has promised to volunteer MV Suez and escort the vessel to Salalah, Oman, said a crew member.

The abandoned Navy vessel MV Suez, that was released by Somali pirates on Monday, Jun 13, was attacked again by pirates on Wednesday, Jun 15.

The six Indian sailors who are set out to come back home after spending ten months being held hostage by Somali pirates in Gulf of Aden were released after paying a huge ransom by Ansar Burney, a Pakistani human rights activist.

Abdul Mathar, the owner of the ship told the media that it took long for them to establish contact with the crew on the ship. He also thanked Ansar Burney, the Pakistani human rights activist for his efforts and said that it was him who negotiated with the pirates and brought down the amount to $2 million.

Somali pirates had released the hijacked MV Suez on Monday Jun 13. The 22 people who were freed by the hijackers included Indians from Mumbai, Tamil Nadu, one each from J&K, Himachal and two Indians, four from Pakistan, eleven from Egypt and one from Sri Lanka.

Pakistan and India was supposed to raise $500,000 and $60,000 respectively, whereas the Egyptian shipping company was supposed to give $1million. Despite of setting a deadline, India failed to fulfill its promise.

Families of freed sailors upset with the government
Rohtak, Jun 14: Six Indian sailors are to come back home after spending ten months being held hostage by the Somali pirates in Gulf of Aden after a huge ransom was paid for their release by Ansar Burney, Pakistani human rights activist.

The 22 people who were freed by the hijackers included Indians from Mumbai, Tamil Nadu, one each from J&K, Himachal and two Indians, four from Pakistan, eleven from Egypt and one from Sri Lanka.

The families of the four sailors Satnam Singh from Ambala, Prashant Chauhan from Shimla, MK Sharma from J&K and Ravinder Gulia of Rohtak brought up the issue in front of the Prime Minister and had pleaded that the Indian government take some action but all went in vain.

"It's a bond of humanity cutting across boundaries that has saved the lives of our dear ones. I am all thanks to the Pakistan national Burney and even the Pakistan government which helped in the efforts to get the hostages released," said Sampa, Ravinder Gula's wife.

"I have just talked to my husband who informed me that he is likely to reach home in next 9-10 days. He says that all the sailors are in good health and have gotten out of the danger zone in the sea," said Sampa.

Sampa was trying her best in getting the government's help to get her husband released.

"My ten month agony has finally come to an end thanks to Pakistan human rights activist Ansar Burney's efforts. Even the Pakistan government has played a positive role in the process of getting the hostages freed as the governor of Sind state Ishratul Ebad raised funds to pay the ransom amount to the pirates. But the Indian government and politicians let us down," said Sampa.

"I have taken a personal vow to never cast my vote as these politicians have little concern for the miseries and grievances of the common people," she said.

She said she talked to several minister who refused to help her saying that paying ransom was illegal.

"Is securing the human lives illegal? They refused to talk to the pirates to get Indian citizens freed. Had there been the relative of any politician or VIP among the hostages, the Indian government would have come to its knees to ensure his/her release and there have been such instances in the past. But the lives of the common man does not move them," she added.

Pakistan and India was supposed to raise $500,000 and $60,000 respectively, whereas the Egyptian shipping company was supposed to give $1million. Despite of setting a deadline, India failed to full its promise.

This is a misreading of events - the reality is that attackers were allowed to escape ---- lets not be praise whores, we don't need to be, I for one don't find any honor in any Indian praising or not any action by the Pakistani armed forces - the fact that attackers were allowed to escape only means that just as the Pakistan army does not take responsibility for action against Talib, the Navy refuses to destroy, annihilate, those who attack it and this only invites further attacks, the Pakistani nation and especially it's armed forces owe the Somali belligerents, a fitting response.

Get the brand new frigate out of danger back to safe zone , we need J11 to help ships in mission like this

its TOI that creates all this hollaa
even when IN ships saves other merchant vessels they are the ones bigmouth'ing beyond whats required.
its an international effort against piracy and and every country is thankful to the other for its contribution.

Though its sad to hear that GOI didnt pay the money, even if their was some reason, coz lives where at stake.

anyway thanx PN, the person who negotiated and all the people in pakistan who paid the charity for their release.

the ransom is 2.1 million!

the indian government initially agreed to share 1 million dollars but when the time came the refused to open up there kitty.
as per Ansar Burney Trust, the indian minister even didnt attenede the phone when tried to be contacted to discuss this money issue. it was pakistan who collected this as a charity and helped get the people freed.

they asked for $20 million, but were paid only $2.1 million after negotiations worked out..
there were more egyptians on the ship than indians and pakistanis combined and the ship belonged to an egyptian company, dont u think it was THEIR job to pay most of the money!
