DHAKA, Dec 16, 2012 (BSS)- The countrymen today witnessed an attractive parade including spectacular fly-past and acrobatic show of fourth generation fighter Mig-29, while displaying wide range of the national achievements since independence to consolidate nation's strengthen in the field of military power and economy.

Nine Infantry Division of Bangladesh Army under the supervision of the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs and Armed Forces Division (AFD) arranged the parade at National Parade Ground marking the 42nd Victory Day.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina attended the parade as the chief guest and took salute. Different corps and contingents of the three services, Freedom Fighters, para-military troops including Bangladesh Border Guard, law enforcing agencies, Jail Keepers, Fire Service and Civil Defence and different ministries participated the parade.

President Zillur Rahman, who usually takes salute of V-Day, could not attend the due to his ill health.

State Minister for Liberation War Affairs A B Tajul Islam, Army Chief General Iqbal Karim Bhuiyan, Air Force Chief Air Marshal Enamul Bari, Naval Chief Commodore Jahiruddin Ahmed were present on the salutation dais.

General Officer Commanding (GOC) of Nine Infantry Division Major General Chowdhury Hasan Soharawardi, Bir Bikram, conducted the parade.

For the first time, newly inducted eight MBT-2000 tank, sophisticated Weapon Locating Radar SLC-2 of Armour Contingent of Bangladesh Army, Defender Class Boat of Special Warfare Diving and Salvage Force of Navy and Surface to Air Missile of the Air Force were displayed in the parade.

A group drawn from different contingent and corps of the three services carried a 200 feet long and 120 feet wide ever largest national flag in the parade.

Artistes of Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra enthralled the audiences by performing song - 'Joy Bangla Banglar Joy' from a moving vehicle.

Ministers, PM's advisors, parliament members, high civil and military officials, families of Bir Shreshtha gallantry award winning and war-wounded freedom fighters, and a large number of common people enjoyed the two-hour parade from the makeshift galleries of the parade square.

Seventeen valiant fighters of Indian Army, who took part in the Bangladesh's War of Liberation including Lt. Gen. (retd) VK Singh (PVSM) and his spouse, friends of Bangladesh Liberation War, now in Dhaka to receive the Bangladesh Liberation War Honour and Friends of Liberation War Honour, also attended the function.

On the occasion, the National Parade Ground and its adjacent roads and road islands were decorated with banners, placards and billboards inscribed with slogans and messages of the V-day and War of Liberation. Portraits of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, war heroes and other national leaders were also set up at vintage points.

The billboards and banners were featured with the chronologies of the nation's struggle for freedom and other events including Language Movement in 1952, Juktafront election in 1954, six-point movement in 1966, mass-upsurge in 1969, general election in 1970 and historic speech of Bangabandhu on March 7, 1971 to let the new generation to know the history of the independence.
