Bangladesh stages Victory Day Parade

However india needs to remind Bangladeshis of how they rescued Bangladesh from 'evil' Pakistan. This is so BD youth do not revolt against india.

Whatever India did is to help it's own interests, including carting off war booty to India which meant almost all Pakistani armament and East Pakistani industrial machinery of any description - this is all VERY well documented. Indians only walked in at the last minute when East Pakistani guerrillas (Mukti Bahini) had already won the war of attrition 95%. Pakistani forces were mostly confined to the Barracks in EP by December 1971.

Essentially for Indian Army it was a "Photo-Op" to accept final Pakistani Army surrender and chalk up another win for Indira Gandhi, by offering Pakistani Soldiers safe passage through India.

many BD youth gracefully apreciate india for their timely intervention. To them, their liberation was because of india.
Pakistan had no chance, the region no longer wanted to be apart of Pak. It should have been an independent nation in 1947.

Bolded Part: Recently saw a BBC documentary about the last days of the 1971 war. The reporter was on the ground in Dhaka. He said Pakistani troops were hard to find in Dhaka. The war was already lost and even communication with West Pakistan was greatly reduced. Pakistan didn't have a viable chance at all. The 'Razakars' defenders of Pakistan didn't have the weapons like Mukti Bahini fighters.

And to be frank, the West Pakistani leadership and indeed many, if not most civilians, were not too sad to see East Pakistan go. The surrender of the Pakistani military was a disgrace but it is now established that the surrender was done to avoid unnecessary death and destruction. I am confident the Pakistani Army would have fought till the last man and the war would have lasted several more weeks/months but that would be not only the death of the the soldiers but also of civilians and also destruction of Dhaka. And to what end? Futile glory?

Armies do lose in wars but as long as a 'nation' is alive, a lost 'war' is but a 'battle'. Do note that even at the height of the American power, twice American forces had to do massive retreats in face of the North Korean offensives.

PS. Here is the documentary. It has Urdu captions but is in English.

Pakistan had no chance, the region no longer wanted to be apart of Pak. It should have been an independent nation in 1947.

Muktis and rebellious East Bengal Regiment Units fought and accomplished 95% of the gains on East Pakistan side. The Indians walked in in the first week of December and conducted photo ops with Niazi for surrender.

No Bangladesh military commander was given a seat or a signature in signing the instrument of surrender in their own country, though the major accomplishment was theirs mostly and who laid down their lives without any regard for personal safety in the war. Neither Colonel Muhammad Ataul Ghani Usmani (Bangladesh commander) or General Zia were asked to participate in the signing event for the surrender, which was kept exclusively for Indian Military leaders. Usmani was a contemporary of Lieutenant General Khwaza Wasiuddin, also a Bengali (from Dhaka Nawab Family), who was in the 8th Punjab regiment. Wasiuddin Saab did not participate in any war activities.

Indian military leaders deliberately did not conduct the surrender event properly by recognizing East Pakistanis' own contributions, as is their selfish nature - this is only one part of the reason why there is a feeling of hostility in Bangladesh for Indian leadership today. It is clear - that they (led by Indira) got involved in the war for their own self-centered reasons.

Bhaisaab you are too kind. I have my faults and shortcomings as all other folks. However I am aware and mindful of the fact that we come here only to enrich each others' knowledge and entertain if possible.

I am truly ashamed of the many instances I lost my cool. Hope people will see those fallibilities with forgiving eyes.
