PM sacks 11 ministers over ‘unsatisfactory performance’

ISLAMABAD: The government has proposed to remove five federal ministers and six state ministers from the cabinet over their unsatisfactory performance. The decision is likely to be implemented by the end of this month.

Reliable sources told DawnNews that Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, who was unsatisfied with the performance of the eleven ministers, said that they will no longer hold their portfolios once the decision is implemented.

Among those who will be removed are federal ministers Humayun Aziz Kurd of Livestock and Dairy Development, Najamuddin Khan of State and Frontier Region, Lal Muhammad Khan of Special Initiative, Shahid Hussain Bhutto of Youth Affairs, Noor-ul-haq Qadri of Zakat and Ushr and state ministers for Defence Arbab Muhammad Zahir, Rafique Ahmed Jamali of Food and Agriculture, Muhammad Tariq Anis of Housing and Works, Abdul Raziq of Kashmir Affairs and Northern Areas, Masood Abbas of Local Government and Rural Development, Muhammad Jadam Mangrio of Livestock and Dairy Development from the cabinet.

Four of the federal ministers belong to the Pakistan Peoples Party, while one is an independent politician from FATA. Meanwhile, out of the six state ministers two are from ANP and PPP each and one from Pakistan Muslim League (Functional) who would be removed from the cabinet.

The prime minister had a meeting with the president earlier this week in which he expressed his dissatisfaction with the performance of 19 ministers of his ruling party.

Sources confirmed that the government is planning to go ahead with the reshuffle in the federal cabinet and is seeking the removal of nearly two dozen non-performing ministers; however there are fears that the move could result in a backlash from the ministers and their advisors.

The PPP leadership is currently under extreme stress as the decision would cause irreparable political loss.

Meanwhile, sources added that the prime minister has once again offered Senator Raza Rabbani the portfolio of the Minister for Law that is lying vacant, but he has rejected the government’s offer.

DawnNews learnt that Rabbani has placed a condition of dissolution of the cabinet if the government wants him to be part of present ministerial setup. –DawnNews

I don't think Prime Minister has enough guts to do such an action just by his own consent.. he is too dependent on Zardari for the decisions and Zardri is one dheet person by nature. He will prefer to sink whole setup instead of filling in the leaks and gaps.

But even if it happens, sacking those 2 dozens people and filling in with new 2 dozens would mean inviting the second batch of corrupt and inapt politicians. If ministers who are intended to be sacked are not interrogated, questioned and made to explanation where they spent tax payer's money then this is just a facilitating move in which waiting National Assembly Members are being given their chance to make some.

Without accountability, such action would mean nothing.

Shuffling has already started, Ijaz Jhakrani Federal Minister for Health has been made Minister for Sports and feel sorry for Jadam Mangrio very recently Railway Ministry was taken away from him and now he will be thrown out :lol

Who will replace these jokers will be interesting and Gillani seems to be the only sane person in this Govt.

.
Well they might not get replaced most probably, due to recent reports of government decision to lower govt expenditure, one mean decided hs been to lower the strength of the cabinet, as there are approx 100+ guys with federal minister / state minister status and nearly all state ministers are of no use.

A rumor to restrict the number in 60s is being suggested.

So in future we may be seeing either full cabinet sacked or major changes.

Hope it done as these people are putting extra burden on the national exchequer.

i dont think PM has gutts nor the authority may be this sort of rumors will get these lazy bums on their feet and first time in life they wil have to work for their money !

.
well PM has already shown his level of guts to us all. his stance on NRO, Judiciary, recently changed ministries etc

it wont be wise if he makes any decision without takin his party into confidence.

A sensible decision right now will be in the larger interest of the nation and taking the corrupt elites into confidence will be a compromise on that.

.
^^ a sensible decision with everyone on board will be a lot more in national interest. dont u think so?

It is very important to have a stringent check on the performance of ministers by Prime Minister especially in a country like Pakistan, where ministries are just considered as a symbol of pride by member of parliaments, instead of being taking it as an opportunity to serve and work for the development of people, most of the ministers spend their entire tenure in thinking the ways to make money.

The PM is a good guy.. he really is trying..give the ol chap some credit maybe he will stand upto Zardari
