Is that service still running? Ever heard two trains doing the same purpose?

If a private train started a service, it is obviously after the approval of the GoP, your very own Prime Minister inaugurated that train service. So if they did, why they want to turn that company into loss now? If the Government itself wants to compete with private companies nobody would ever imagine investing in Pakistan.

Our Government is so nice that when my plane was struck by lightening and diverted to New Delhi couple of months ago. We were stranded at Delhi Airport for about 40 hours. We tried to contact the Government of Pakistan and one of the guy managed to send an email to NDTV (as far as I heard). After receiving a reply from them we were told that our embassy will be in touch with us soon. But only to know that Prime Minister took notice of this incident and instructed to send a chartered PIA plane for us. The baba jee's of the flight were like "Mian Sahab ne kamaal kar diya ab bas plane aaya aur hum gaye"... We were there for another 24 hours or so and not even a single government official came to say "Hello", let alone the flight or consulate service provided by the government of Pakistan. Nobody was there to say sir we are with you and don't ask me about the condition of people over there as they were stranded in alien land in their point of view.

I was getting frustrated as I had not slept for about 60 hours and had very few days to spend in Pakistan so I alongside two other passengers started gathering people and asked them to protest so these people can fasten the pace of engineering work or provide us with alternative plane and finally we got the things under control within 3-4 hours when the head of Gulf Air, India came to us, apologised and took serious actions to sort this matter out.

When we reached Pakistan, there was a government officer who came to me saying oh sir jee, I know you have gone through a lot of stress in India and we could not do anything for you but I am told that you spoke well in India and the media wants to talk to you alongside few other passengers so please do not say anything bad to the government as the country is currently not in position to face further embarrassment before the world... long lecture of patriotism was conferred and I said to him if you want me to comment on the treatment of GoP then I have really worst things to say but you want me to speak nice for country's sake so I would abstain from opening my mouth and revealing reality. After I reached home, whomsoever I met, many people praising Nawaz Sharif government for the credit they hardly deserved and I made sure they all know the reality.

PML-N is just a publicity party, for any project if they don't see publicity, they would not set their feet in.

What you expect from them, to invite you and give you nice king size mattress in embassy where you sleep like Prince? In which airline you were travelling? Its responsibility of airline to shift passangers to hotels if flight is delayed. Secondly it was in New Delhi so it's common sense that things will be hard and slow as they also tried to stop operations of PIA.

Don't take undue credit for everything they don't do. It took me a month clarifying to people that no pia plane was ever dispatched to take us back home. The day I came home, many news channels were busy praising Nawaz Sharif and thanking him for sending the PIA plane to bring back Pakistanis from Delhi

1-Green line is more catered towards people living in upcountry
2-People who would travel to Northern areas from down country especially Karachi.

Nice excuses.. Two lines covering the same route and one line being suspended after coverage of 85% of route does not make economic sense. If Business Express service was planned to be halted at Lahore junction, there would be economic sense in that decision.

I am not against the green line all I am against is the ill planning where the only cost of government is probably buying/refurbishing bogies and start running on existing railway infrastructure. It could be a wise step if it's doing something that hasn't been performed already but apparently this is all it is.

The government must invest to improve the railway tracks for speed up to 140-160km/hr and restrain other services to at least 30% slower service to make it look attractive product in the market.

Having said that our railway infrastructure is pretty poor and need massive investment for overhauling. We also do need regular trains running all over the country but it should be cost effective if it does not have an ability to stand unique in the market.

In UK you buy a train ticket for about 1200~ rupees and take unlimited journeys of underground and overground trains and buses all across London. You spend about 3500 rupees to travel the distance similar to Lahore and Karachi on buses or less than 10,000 on trains which will take you at the speed of over 200-300km per hour and cut your journey to less than half as compared to buses or private car.

In UK I have travelled to Norway from London (return journey) for only 1500 rupees with total distance longer than Karachi and Lahore and in Pakistan it costs 10 times more despite being cheap country as compared to west and they are still incurring losses. The bitter reality of our country

Which one else is covering the same route except tezgam? Please let me know. If you want to travel cheap, you can always travel in all-economy Pakistan exp

Like train to the moon? the real income of railways comes from Cargo, not passenger activity. There are already trains running on all sustainable routes.

The whole track needs replacement, from Lahore to Karachi. The track refurbishment would require a bailout of railway from government.

You're comparing a metro service with intercity one. I would be surprised if a travel between London and say vienna costs 1200 PKR.

On promotional tickets, I can grant you that but regular trains wouldn't cost that cheap..

Well Samma Showing that where People didn't got Tea and Wifi is not working well
South Asians in general crib too much! Didn't get tea? So what's the big deal? There will always be teething problems that would be sorted out gradually. However, the railways should have had a test run without passengers and made sure everything is working well.

When Federal Ministers come to power via Election Rigging, you can't expect improvement because they don't owe anything back to the Awaam. Khawaja Saad Rafique's tenure in Railways is one of the worse in our history. The deficit in first 6 months of this fiscal year was 12.5 billion under Saad Rafique which is 5 times worse than what the deficit used to remain in ANP leader Bilour's tenure as minister.
Railways faces over Rs 12bn deficit in first 5 months of FY 2014-15
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Railways has confronted Rs12.679 billion deficit in the first five months of current fiscal year 2014-15 while last year the department...
