PLANDRI: Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has promised complete political, diplomatic and moral support to the people of Kashmir, terming it the “jugular vein of Pakistan”.
Addressing a public gathering here at the Plandri Cadet College on Thursday, he said the Pakistan People’s Party had a deep relationship with the Kashmir issue.
He said the party, like its late leaders, would continue to “internationalise” the issue, apprise the world about the gross human rights violations in the occupied region and seek international help for resolving the problem.
“We will like to tell the world that the people of Pakistan stand by their Kashmiri brethren and support their cause.”
The prime minister, who had visited Bagh and Bhimber on Wednesday, said the PPP was fielding its candidates for every seat of the Legislative Assembly because it had the support of people across the country. He said the party had been contesting elections from the day it was created and it had a wide support base.
However, it was PPP’s desire that all other political parties that earlier had no presence in Kashmir also joined the democratic process there and contested the elections, he said. “We will let the people of Kashmir choose the leadership they like.”
The prime minister said it was the responsibility of the federation to continue providing funds for development projects and providing basic facilities to the people of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and the Federally Administered Tribal Areas.
“It does not matter which party you opt for. You may vote for the candidate of your choice, but being the chairman of the AJK Council, it is my responsibility to continue to provide funds for your development without any discrimination.”
He promised to meet the demands of local people, solve their problems and visit the area again.
The prime minister said the people of Plandri had rendered sacrifices for liberation and democracy and a large number of them were serving in the armed forces.
On the occasion, the prime minister ordered the removal of the bullet-proof shield installed at the dais for his security.—APP
