What happened to the Sukhoi Superjet 100?Many Pakistanis were counting upon it,that it will forge good ties between Russia and Pakistan.

Things like Railway and PIA can not be let to go bankrupt since these are vital strategic assets. They can be downsized but not completely let finished. That is if we do not want to become Somalia. The nation need the minimum services. Pakistan Steel mill can be let go bankrupt since steel can be imported. But with no railway and airway, then Pakistan will be in serious jeopardy.

A 380 is double decker, large size Airbus and can carry lots of passengers, and luggage.

The 787 Dreamliner whose first plane was just handed to ANA japanese airlines is very luxurious and beautiful middle airliner. Also no-one buys old planes, they are dangerous & faulty, hence leasing is a good option.

Both A 380 and Boeing 787 take less energy consumption, fuel efficient, quieter, modern entertainment systems, more spacious and reliable. Its a one off investment, if Pak gets TOT, it will good.

I would say Pakistan should lease 5 odd jets and buy 5 odd for itself.

unit cost

A-380 US$375.3 million

B-787 US$218 million

are we idiots to pay it ? for what? they even make them scrap after 3 years and ask more money for recover :P

corruption is blood of PIA and we can not change the blood :P

why give off 6 wide body A/C for 12 Narrow body ones?

Is PIA looking to concentrate more on the regional market rather than a bit long distance?

B787 is a costly one to buy with a long waiting list, the problem is not really mainly because of the Planes in PIA, it is the management.

Would be better to get new A/C rather than old ones, and then get a godforsaken good management in.

Are these A320's new?

They should go ahead and purchase B787. Very fuel efficient and over its 35 year life it will make huge profits for PIA by saving on fuel. These A-320's are old, expired and gas guzzlers.

jeez people where the heck are they gonna operate these aircrafts!?
these are long to ultra long range aircrafts we already have 777 (all 3) for that duties!!!
PIA needs short to medium range aircraft to replace 747 and a310!

btw the only reason PIA is going bankcrupt is because they have 17000+ people for only 40 aircrafts!!!!!!!

kick some "useless" people out, and u'll see it will get back on track in no time.

Yeah, I say, lets put focus on the domestic and regional flights right now, get these Jumbos out, get a couple of 777's and , put them on the long haul, and get everything else on the regional route.

they are fairly new compare to A310 and 747, which its gonna replace if acquired.
and as far as i remember, PIA uses 747 and A310 on regional routes sometimes, which is a BIG MISTAKE these aircrafts are not design for short range flights.
these a320 aircrafts might help in decreasing the operating cost.

exactly! and these 777 are probably the most fuel efficient aircrafts in their class, PIA made one smart decision by inducting these aircrafts. i was one of the lucky few people to travel on the new 777-200LR, when it was acquired in 2006. :smokin:
Karachi to Toronto non-stop.

personally i dnt think they r replacing a310s wth a320's, a310s has no replacement, i think that they would go for 787's and some more 777-300ers, 787 would be the best replacement for a310s, and yea isb, lhr, khi to toronto sector is doing soo well, flights r full, PIA wants to use 300ers to Toronto bt 300ers of PIA dont hav cabin crew rest area

Definitely, we should go for some fuel efficient A/C, get the jumbos out of the regional routes, and get a good management.

The jumbos were on a regional route because the EU banned these A/C from entering their airspace because of pollution and safety issues.

The real dent in PIA revenues is the devaluation of the Pakistani Rupee , as every year dollar goes up Rupees come down , it cuts down their profit

Secondly the fuel costs fluctuates

But even so PIA should have had a strategy , e.g perhaps buy the fuel 1 years supply so their budget is constant or perhaps try to change their profits/sales into a stable currency

Their staff members are quick large for a carrier with only

40 planes , 16 crew per plane = 640 crew members
May be 200 pilots

17,000 workers for administration is lost revenue, this figure should ideally be just
3,000 employees

The employee cap should be around the 8000 mark, that is it. And no sifarshi appointments, everything be done on the basis of credibility and experience. PIA needs to sort out it's management first, then look at buying some aircraft.
