HAL's chopper programmes on right track: P.S. Rajan , HAL's chopper complex head
P+Soundara+Rajan.jpg

A day after Tarmak007 posted LCH's TD-2 Silent Maiden Flight (see the post below), HAL's chopper complex head P.S. Rajan said that 'picking up momentum' is the key to projects like LCH and ALH.
Rajan told Tarmak007 on July 10 that HAL's chopper projects are all moving in the right direction now. "I am not doing anything great, but sticking to the basics and facilitating the needs of various teams with me (at Helicopter Complex)," Rajan said.
A blue-eyed-boy of former HAL chief A.K. Baweja and the right hand man of the current head A. Nayak, the chopper complex chief said he would take one step at a time. "I don't want to give any unrealistic figures and time-lines. I strongly believe that the IOC for LCH would only happen around February 2013. The TD-3 will also take time as it would be a production variant and we are keen to hand over the best machine to IAF," Rajan said in his inimitable style, to queries.

So far, so good! Only time will tell whether Rajan's hands-on approach in tackling issues would fetch rich dividends to HAL's ill-fated Helicopter Complex. If insiders were to be believed, he has already made a slight difference to the work culture and 'things are moving.'
If it's true, then it's a good sign for ALH future variants, LCH, LUH and other rotary platforms set to fly out of HAL hangars.

Looks epic!

Why doesn't any other attack heli use digital camo though? Surely a lot of other countries have the technology to do so?

Other countries do:

But despite being relatively old concept some traditionalise in armed forces find it hard to accept so it has not, until recently, been used that much:

Only recently has Lt. Col. O’Neill’s work seen a new interest with the Canadian CADPAT uniform camouflage in the late 90’s the U.S. Marines MARPAT uniform pattern in 2001 and most recently the U.S. Army Combat Uniform pattern 2003, the Finnish and Chinese have also come out with their own digital patterns and Tiger Stripe Products has recently announced Tigerpat and Tigerpat Plus 2004 for the military and civilian market. Field-testing with most of these digital patterns show improvements of traditional camouflage, but there is much more room for improvement.

While Lt. Col. O’Neill’s initial work is the base for these recent digital patterns, his years of research have shown a number of other factors and recommendations have been ignored in all digital patterns for uniforms. His extensive findings and current research is now being applied to the latest digital patterns being developed for the U.S. Military. Those factors should lead to more effective concealment for the men and women who go in harms way to protect our freedom.

Timothy R. O’Neill is still actively involved in Camouflage research and development. He is a consultant on military training and technology in the Washington, DC area, and an active Civil War reenactor.

Except to see it more in the future. Bold move on HAL/IAF/IA's part.

Does the camo pattern need to be bigger? I see they painted the window bars as well.

...Funny looking thing

I don't know about that- i suppose it's for HAL/IAF/IA to refine and experiment according to their own needs. Funny looking? I don't know I quite like it- different though, yes!!!

Yeah, I guess there's a lot of science behind camo. It all depends on where they will be deployed I suppose. I was just wondering since other tanks/ helis I've seen always have a bigger pattern.

The micro spots are supposed to sort of blend into each other giving a sort of blurry look and make it difficult to figure out actual shape, size etc. This one might work well where background is brown like the desert
