You know you have a problem when police use rocket launchers.
Its not a problem, its part of our culture. People used to practice open-carry back in the days then shit happened and now people don't brandish their weapons. Ever heard of the 'Kalashankov Culture'? Contrary to what most people think, open carry makes a society more safer as criminals think a million times before robbing a person, home or business. Worked well for us for centuries until 9/11 perhaps.

. .
Then in some areas, show of force matters alot.... An armed group brandishing RPGs, MGs, PKs etc does a good job of deterring.
THIS, that's exactly why a weapon of mass destruction-relatively speaking is a great deterrent.

So what was the culture before Russian invented machine gun?

Tamancha Culture?

People use to have swords, daggers and what not before barood came along. Didn't you already know that?

. .
I did say i want to give them their culture back by replacing the guns with the swords.

Apparently it warranted a series of abuse by the gated community propagandist.
I haven't read the other comments so i don't know what you're on about but that thing is outdated. No one wants to see guns in the open, infact people frown upon it now. Having said that EVERYONE should have a firearm at home, just for that once in a lifetime 'experience' if it EVER comes to that. You'd never know.

Just for this purpose alone there was incident quoted in the news piece about toddlers killing people by mistake or uncles killing nieces in fits of rage.

The best deterrence is have a sound moral community and not prey on each other's paranoia.

Common men shouldn't carry guns as guns are not small baby toys to be wielded around and played with. It's one of the most dangerous weapons out there that can cause loss of lives because of a small mistake. Unlike the swords or daggers where you have to slash or stab to actually maim/kill another person, a single click of the trigger has the capacity to kill an individual. We have heard plenty of stories where common unarmed innocent people have lost their lives due to the carelessness of the person using the gun. People tend to forget many things but forgetting to lock the gun or unload the gun can be really dangerous particularly when it falls into amateur hands. Again, there have been cases where small children have accidentally killed one of their parents simply because the parents were careless enough to let their child play with the gun and them forgetting to unload the gun.

And no, it doesn't in any way make a society safer. Just look at Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Yemen, Libya, Nigeria,(even some areas of Pakistan) etc. People with common interests come together and start form their own militias which sometimes act against the government if their demands are not fulfilled. This leads to loss of lives and thus starts a cycle where both parties i.e the government and the militia start feeling that they are wronged. This again leads to usage of arms.

There should be strict laws and stringent tests if a common person wants to acquire a gun. I personally never have seen a gun in a common man's hand apart from the police or the army or maybe sometimes the security of the banks. Yes, I've heard that in some places of UP, Bihar and MP, a common man owning a gun is not a big thing. Some people have to compulsorily own guns over there to keep themselves safe from dacoits but which again leads to gun culture. I think India should confiscate weapons from all individuals unless they hold a gun license.

Where there is gun culture, there is usually bound to be lawlessness (except maybe US). Which leads us to think: does lawlessness result in gun culture or does gun culture results in lawlessness?

from police mishandling of a rocket launcher to a child shooting his mom. fail to see how one incident is related to the other.

stupid ARY "journos". I can understand you selecting this with mal-intent but ARY? they are supposed to be overwhelmingly pro Pakistan. after all was it not them that produced Waar?
There is a relation: just as a seven yr old child should not possess a gun similarly a Policeman should not possess rocket launchers

PESHAWAR: A policeman deputed at the Peshawar Central Jail accidentally fired rocket, which he was holding for a security reason on Tuesday, ARY News reported.

According to the police, the policeman was fixing his rocket launcher, when the rocket accidentally got fired.

Luckily no loss was reported as the rocket blasted at the vacate plot near Judicial Academy.

“No human neither property loss was reported”, said the local police.

Last year on March 25, a seven-year-old boy had accidentally shot dead his mother in Faisalabad. According to the police, the minor was playing with his father’s pistol mistaking it for a toy when the bullet was fired upon his mother in the house situated in Liaquatabad.

The mother was rushed to a nearby medical facility in critical condition, but she had succumbed to her bullet wounds on the way. Meanwhile, the police had arrested the husband of the deceased woman for further investigation into the matter.
