GENESIS, datalinks, MK41 VLS 8cell quadpack with 32 ESSM missile; 1 MK13 with 32 SM-1 Block4: 64 Missile ready! Smart-s 3d AESA radar.

System Can guide up 4 ESSM or 2 SM-1 Block4 missile simultanously; no fly-zone around 45 km range 2 Seahawk Choppers ready to take-off in each frigate

They kept the MK13 launcher, this launcher can be upgraded for SM-2 missiles.

I think that range of ESSMs or SM1s are not enough to intercepting aircrafts.

Locking range can be change as radar or target but is anyone knows that an average aircraft which can fire anti-surface missile how many kilometers away it can lock a ship?

Is there any project (similar to GENESIS or MK41 launcher) upgrading for Pakistani Perries?

It is needed to launch Harpoons and SM-1s. ESSM is not a upgrade to the SM-1 but a upgrade to the RIM-7(what is on the Meko Track I) both lines are set up to intercept different threats. SM-1 out ranges the ESSM still so i would see that as the offensive weapon still but the ESSM now gives the OHP modern intercept capability against aircraft, supersonic missiles and cruise missiles.

They are 50km and 74km which can intercept aircraft easy and if a aircraft launches a cruise missile the ESSM can intercept it(even supersonic ones). However if you mean modern long range large area coverage the TF-2000 will come into that role. It will have more VLS cells and a longer range and more capable radar for that purpose.

There are stand off missiles that out range the intercept range of the ESSM (however the ships radar can pick the aircraft up before the launch and fire off a ESSM once the missile it launched is with in 50km) If this fails the phalanx can also fire at it from a short distance. If this fails then the missile will hit the ship.

Nothing has been made official as to what will be put on the OHPs for Pakistan. I am sure they would consider Genesis.

Most importantly i am happy see this upgrade happen it is set to go on 4 of the 8 OHPs. I had not heard anything for a while about it and i am happy that this program was still going on. Extensive modernization of our OHPs is a very good solution till our own designs come into play in the future.

Very good news.

On the other hand, as noted above, I think we're lacking MAJORLY in range when it comes to theater aerial defense. I think it is time for Turkey to work out a deal with the U.S. and upgrade the Gabyas for the SM-2 capability.

SM-1's are from the 1960's and its range is quoted as 80-100km linear. It saw a lot of historic action including the Vietnam war. In Turkey's rapidly evolving threat environment and by 2010's military standards it is completely OUTDATED and OBSOLETE.

I don't know why TSK have always lacked in aerial defence. It is as if SAM capability was never so important. All of our enighbors, including those that we look down on, have better land-based SAM systems in the form of S-300s and Patriots. We on the other hand still rely on ANCIENT MIM-14 from the 1950's! It's such a shame.

Currently our most advanced SAM system is unfortunately the Hawk XXI with a range of only 25 km linear. Most stand-off missiles and terrain-skimming cruise missiles can easily take out these installations.

We have a good number of aircraft for traditional aerial defence but that is a very costy way of defending your airspace, requires a whole different tactic and bears more risk (losing pilots and valuable strike assets).

Our bases and cities are currently completely defenseless against most surface-to-surface missile attacks. :frown:

Aselsan Plan to develop an Air Defence System similar like Rheinmetall Skyshield, which can fire AHEAD Amuntion on incomming Targets like Cruise Missiles. This System is Based on Aselsan SPAAG, but the puropse is to Protect stationary Tagets like Bases, Depots etc.

Rheinmetall Defence - Air Defence Systems

Turkey have a big strategic Depth and do not only rely on Long Range Air Defence Systems like S-300. For Air Defence TurAF can use F-5/2000 and F-16C/D Block 30/50. Long Range Air Defence is Neccasarry, but not first priority !

Certainly we have had a lapse in air defence. While the HAWK XXIs and Raiper can provide medium intercepts we have nothing for long range high altitude coverage. These also are not the most capable missiles out there and besides aircraft i would not count on them to intercept any type of missile. From what i have heard our tender will be pushed back to after the June elections to be considered. Which is disappointing because many countries (even ones with lower defense budgets) now picked up high altitude surface to air missiles. The SM-1 can work with genesis and a modern radar well when it comes to intercepting aircraft. The SM-2 would be a much better option but i have not heard of anything else going on with the G-Class besides this. (Long range ship based surface to air missiles are being looked at for the TF-2000 though which include a number of countries offers)

Priority is setting up high altitude defense around Istanbul and Ankara. This is where our most important assets are. We need to increase or defense spending if we are to replace our obsolete arms in a timely matter.
