The size of the country's gross domestic product (GDP) has increased as well.

The per capita income rose to $1,610 in the FY 2016-17 from $1,465 in the FY 2015-16, according to Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS).

In a provisional calculation in May this year, the BBS expected that the per capita income would stand at $1,602 by the end of the FY 2016-17. But in the final calculation, it stood at $1,610, $8 more from the provisional estimate.

Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal disclosed it while briefing journalists in the National Economic Council conference room after a meeting of the Executive Committee of National Economic Council on Tuesday.

He said the per capita income had increased as the country’s economic growth also witnessed a rise in the FY 2016-17. The size of the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) has increased as well, he added.

$145 increase in a year. Hmm................We're like 2 years behind India now..
Next year is election year..thus later half next year and the first half of the year after that will see some decline in economic growth...

Lol. Watch this become a di*k measuring thread.
Well, that wasn't my intention. I'm just comparing our GDP growth with that of our big neighbor. Days of chasing Pak is over. We need a new one to chase now. Change the base year and see how much difference remains with India. We need to change the base year before comparing with India.

We must give Awami League credit for the strong economy. They have massive faults but the economy is a strong point, along with infrastructure finally.

Well, comparing with India is not our intention nor our goal. Some of us only do this because of snobbish attitude of many Indian. In their imagination, Bangladesh is a vastly poorer and backward country than India. They even call Bangladesh as 'Kangladesh'. Some even says, Bangladesh is like Mexico while India is USA. This type of the attitude is the reason that we sometimes forced to show them the realities of 'Indian dream'.:P

AL needs 10 more years to complete the things they started. By that time Hasina will be too old. It will the right time to kick them out and have a competent, less corrupt and nationalist Govt which is not BNP or Erhsad.

Well, I guess some of Indians only do this because of our attitude?

Some of us do hate India and some of Indians do hate us with a passion.

Think 1 more term is enough. New government in 2024 will have a strong foundation in economy and infrastructure to build on.
If you look at the big infrastructure projects started or about to, they should all be complete before 2025.

One of the best thing this govt is doing is reviving the railway as an important mode of transportation. Most of these projects are railway related. This is in contrast with previous BNP govt. who decided to scrap the railway because it was making loss!! Taking suggestion from the World Bank, BNP govt. even shut down some railway destination. Those shitheaded BNP wala thought Bangladesh can run by only road transportation and were willing to scrap the most cost effective, comfortable and safe mode of land transportation. This is the BNP we got.:tsk:

Congratulations is in order. Good luck in the future as well. This will motivate us to do good as well.

Don't let Hasina loose it all though by signing the 6.26 billion US$ contract for just one 1200 MW coal fired plant. The latest one that we we signed up with Siemens is under a billion for 1263 MW. Decision like this would vanish all gains increasing the per capita of Japan instead,.

That's inevitable if you keep yourself away from disputes, do not spend on un-necessary arms and dont give up to extremism.

Great job BDesh. Hope you will keep Rohingya issue in control.
