Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA), on Wednesday, issued a show cause notice to the private TV channel Bol News for its programme “HQ Debate”.

The authority claims that the host, Hamza Ali Abbasi, allegedly passed derogatory remarks about the Pakistani passport.

PEMRA’s Point of View
PEMRA states that airing of such derogatory remarks can spread hatred and provoke anti-Pakistani sentiments among the public. Besides that, the media watchdog ruled that Bol’s programme has also been found in violation of several clauses of PEMRA Ordinance 2002 as amended by PEMRA (Amendment) Act 2007 and Electronic Media Code of Conduct 2015.

The authority has directed the management of the TV channel to furnish a reply within seven days for this violation i.e. on or before September 13.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the channel has also been called by PEMRA to appear for a personal hearing before the authority’s committee on the aforementioned date.

In case the Bol News management does not reply within the time frame or if the CEO does not appear before PEMRA for a personal hearing, the authority will commence proceedings against the channel.

This is not the first time that PEMRA has issued a notice to Bol News. Both have been on bad terms since the channel first started its transmissions and often pushed the limits when it came to criticizing the PML-N government.

HQ Debate with Hamza
Hamza Ali Abbasi’s latest HQ Debate can be viewed below. During one of its most recent shows, PML-N’s Jan Achakzai made controversial remarks regarding the Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar which provoked a response out of Hamza Ali Abbasi during the latter part of his program.

You can see the intense arguments after the 36 minute mark and the controversial remarks at the 38:30 mark below:

Offcourse, an open advocate of "secular" Pakistan and a self described liberal like yourself will agree with "Jan Achakzai", deride the concept of Islamic ummah, and would call Hamza Ali Abbasi bad names.

How predictable :)

Whether you like it or not, we are a part of a global Islamic ummah. I know you secularists hate this fact but sorry, that's how it is. We feel the pain when our Muslim brothers are in pain..whether in Palestine or Myanmar. Yes, we should put our national interests first but it does not mean that we are not a part of Muslim nationhood worldwide.

Muslim world is like a big family. In your family, your father puts the interest of his family/kids first and foremost--but it does not mean that he is no longer connected to his brothers and parents etc. Similarly, Pakistan should take care of itself and its interests first--but that does not cut us away from our Islamic brotherhood for Islamic peoples across the globe.

I rarely agree with Jan Achakzia, however on this issue I am on the same page as him, charity begins at home, even Islam acknowledges this, we are offering aid and diplomatic support to Rohingas, we are certainly doing our bit, Hamza needs to think before he rants, going by his logic that Pakistan is a worthless nation, then one can argue those jawans who lay down their lives so chaps like Hamza can sleep safely at night are big time mugs/losers risking their lives for a pitiless nation, I am deeply disappointed in Mr Abbasi, their should be consequences for his most reckless comments.Kudos bro

What is the value of any Muslim country's citizenship. Western nations attract individuals of all backgrounds and ethnicity.

While Muslims want to flee from their own nations. You want to have justice for his remarks while fata$$es living in London and Dubai fly in and out of Pakistan and hold positions in government.

You wanna be western slaves can go fu*k yourself

The guy who's vision is Pakistan called Dr. Muhammad Allama Iqbal was the most vociferous supporter of Muslim Ummah.

Pakistan hasn't opened its gob yet. There is not condemnation or even a statement.

Unless you mean aiding them by selling JF-17 to myanmar.

Abbasi have completely lost it. If we wanted to remain thekedar of muslims then why not remain with Bharat and protect down trodden muslim minorities? Surely RSS in chadis will think twice about burning UP muslims if Pakistan was part of Bharat. What was the point of making Pakistan? Completely agree with Achakzai jan. Who the **** Abbasi think he is? Why should overpopulated piss poor Pakistan give nationality to million or what ever number of Rohingas? When even Bangladeshis who are ethnically rohingas like are refusing to take even few dozens.

Now look at Ali Muhammad khan and Afzal Rathore going on about giving them nationality, lanat.

It's a fantasy and by the look of things it will always be this is the truth me being a "SECULAR OR LIBERAL" have nothing to do with it whoever still believes such things is just deluding himself tbh. Wonder where was the "ummah" when trump was spewing poison on my country.

and next time you quote me you better watch your mouth no need to act like a complete a hole when you can have a civilized discussion.

Totally i can't believe that i am agreeing with Achakzai because of Hamza sad day. He shouldn't be an anchor or journalist if he's so emotional and can't control his mouth.

I was a really fan of this person because he always acted like a mature person talked and raised many important yet extremely controversial issues but here he has just lost it he's degrading Pakistan on a television what message he wants to send out? he's a famous guy with millions of followers he should think ten times about what he's saying.

We've done that already.

The guy needs to take a break, go visit Dubai and chill with some of those actresses, he should not be slandering the nation in such a irresponsible manner,,,, these Rohingas are ethnically the same as Bengals, the onus is on Hasina to take her kinsmen back, I think we should be prepared to offer aid alongside other Muslim nation to ensure these poor folks are rehabilitated into their ancestral land.Kudos bro
