As the smartphone has become more and more capable, the traditional PC has seen less and less room for growth.

This chart from Statista makes it clear: According to recent data from research firm Gartner, annual PC shipments totaled 269.7 million in 2016. That’s a 6% decline year-over-year, the fifth straight annual decline, and the lowest total since 2006, when shipments were a hair under 240 million.

For what it’s worth, fellow research firm IDC came to a final tally of 260 million shipments, which it found to be a 5.7% yearly decline. It varies slightly in which form factors it counts as “PCs,” but the gist is the same.

Gartner and IDC differ slightly in where they see PCs going from here, though. Both believe certain parts of the PC market could excel going forward, especially as smartphones and tablets continue to stagnate, but the latter is more bullish on the PC reaching a point of stabilization, instead of continuing its freefall.

In either case, it’s hard to say the PC is dead. There are still some tasks a mobile device simply cannot do as well, and PCs themselves are becoming more and more tablet-like. But as the multitude of computers in our lives give people less incentive to upgrade, the days of big growth seem to be fading away.

if it goes on like that, there will be a time when big enterprises would prefer to buy PC's while home users would mostly prefer laptops/ notebooks or smartphones,
They are getting slimmer are more power efficient each year,

actually, the trend is more because people realize its cheaper to build your own pc and not something hard to do.

well that's what microsoft gets for hiring an indian ceo, google is next to go down the drain.

just kiddin' relax.

Having said that, WELL DUH, tablets are far cheaper and Linux is becoming more and more user friendly with each passing day, why the hell would anyone spend money on the windows operating system.

True, I myself being one of those people who loves gaming and picked the best hardware and built his PC however, not all are that enthusiastic about building PC and if you plan to make a gaming PC, you still spend quite a lot of Cash on a good GPU and processor, and if you are adding an SSD, it'll only be more expensive,

Now I myself am thinking of buying a console instead, since I do majority of my University work and now Office work is on my laptop and the PC i built 3 years ago now wont run the most demanding games now,
Plus using laptop whilst relaxing on your bed is something you cant have in PC no matter what you do,

Slowly gaming PC's are losing their charm, and now it seems cheaper to go for a console for gaming and do the rest on a good laptop

this topic really isnt about Operating Systems

Laptop's are shit for gaming be it any spec's on it.
A true gamer will never buy one
refer to my previous post,
very few gamers would be rich enough to upgrade their right after a period of 3 years and it gets expensive after each subsequent period, yes it is true that laptop cant be upgraded or can provide the gaming experience of a PC but this is where gaming consoles come

.
The gaming experience from the PC could never be matched by the console. Besides PC games are cheaper then the console games

Unfortunately for smaller developers they don't have the resources to have a room full of test machines with a bunch of different versions of Windows and hardware configurations. It's easier for them to simply build for a console and just have one or two test platforms.

That's sounds Bad

Yes but Best Graphics quality can only generated by Desktop PC

. .
On of the best ways to gauge whether or not people are using desktops less over time is to look at the sales figures of the component manufacturers like nVidea, AMD, intel etc. All these companies have seen rising number of sales for their products. This indicates that people are either assembling their own PCs, or the local computer shops are doing it for them. Independent online sellers like the ones on eBay and Amazon are also not taken into consideration when calculating this trend.

Locked it back into my bag and started pc gaming again.
Got a mid to high end configuration with gtx 980 :)
16gb hyperx ram and i7
