Only someone from the Navy can tell you this but the nearest guess that I can make is that;

someone told me that the pay of Navy is more than army and the salary of a major today is about Rs. 70,000. So you can add some amount to this and get a near guess of Lieutenant Commander's salary. . .

Give the guy a break, military personnel are human too. They have a spouse and kids to look after as well and want them to get the best education and ease of life possible.

Starwar, not everyone would know the answer, not everyone would like to share their wage information.
