Patriot sale to jeopardise Nuclear Deterrence in South Asia

ieueieueehahahahahhahahhahaha

ieuahahhahahhahahhahahahahahah

now every1 is trying to say the ABM system sux.

lol, deep down u know ur quaking in ur boots.

Buddy ABM system is not feasible for india, israel because pak nuke cruise could be launched from slow boat.:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

There's no point in even having a discussion on this topic. Let India have PATRIOT ABM Systems; it will not make any difference vis-a-vis Pakistan. A Pakistani missile will only take 3-minutes to hit cities like Mumbai, Delhi, etc which is NOT enough 'reaction-time' for the PATRIOT. ABM Systems need some 'reaction-time' such as the case between Russia & U.S. where avg time between a missile-launch & a missile-strike is 25minutes.

ABM Systems are only a waste of resources in South Asia; let India go down the misery lane.

But American THAAD and Arrow is capable to intercept pakistani missile ????

But American THAAD and Arrow is capable to intercept pakistani missile ????

Supposedly Indians claim that the Arrow-2 has the quickest reaction-time but I have yet to come across any literature on that.

THAAD is also a mid-flight interceptor like PATRIOT, only its designed as an upper-tier defence layer. But the idea is similar, you try & intercept a ballistic missile 'after' it has been launched. Unfortunately in South Asia, we should not be relying on the luxury of 'waiting' for a launch.

The only way to neutralize a ballistic missile strike in South Asia, would be to pre-empt it - take out the missile system before the missile is launched.

no missile defense including the patriot is foolproof

e.g. imagine there are 100 patriot missiles with India. All pakistan has to do is lob 100 missiles with dummy warheads into India. The abm cannot take the risk and has to go for each and every one. In fact the missiles carrying the dummies dont even have to be the latest versions even some old ones which might be disposed of nearing the end of its life can be used. after all the warheads are dummies and even if 1/2 go of course it is fine. but the indian abm has to shoot each one down. After most are exhausted the actual nukes can be used.

This is not even considering the PAF and anything from submarines etc.

Pretty stupid article.

I heard from some Americans that the Patriot isn't that effective against countering missiles. Is that true? How did it perform in the first gulf war?

THAAD missile defence system is capable to intercept medium and short range missiles

Israel already shown intrest in that system and definately india will also try to go for that system ,which is based on most advanced technology.

A test of a missile defense system successfully intercepted a ballistic target, the U.S. military said on Saturday, constituting a boost to the development of an anti-missile shield program.

The Lockheed Martin Corp.-built Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) program tested Saturday is one of two emergency missile defense systems which Israel is interested in the U.S. deploying within Israeli territory.

THAAD is designed to defend troops, population centers and critical facilities against short- to medium-range ballistic missiles of a type that could be fired by Iran or North Korea. The system could also be sold to U.S. allies like Israel.

The heads of the Homa anti-missile project in the Defense Ministry asked the U.S. Department of Defense about two months ago for information on THAAD and a new model of the Aegis naval defense system.

The hit on Saturday by THAAD program was the fourth in as many tests and involved intercepting the missile outside the Earth's atmosphere, the U.S. Missile Defense Agency said.

Israeli military representatives, along with their counterparts from Australia and the United Arab Emirates, observed the test conducted off the island of Kauai in Hawaii, said Riki Ellison, who heads a missile defense advocacy group funded in part by military contractors.

The test conducted late Friday evening was designed to show how the radar, launcher, fire control equipment and procedures of the system worked together, as well as the interceptor detecting and destroying the target using only the force of the collision.

THAAD has components which are not part of the present generation of Israel's Arrow anti-missile system, which is currently used by the Israel Air Force.

Washington sources have estimated that the U.S. will be able to provide Israel with the system in 2009, after the conclusion of further testing.

The system is a part of a broader U.S. anti-missile shield and is the only one able to engage targets in or outside the atmosphere.

what about time advantage it gives to the opposition and second strike option

THAAD missile defence system is capable to intercept medium and short range missiles

AGAIN, the article you provided says nothing about 'reaction time' - it doesnt matter whether THAAD is for medium, short-range or even long-range missiles. It will NOT matter when a Pakistani missile can hit Delhi in under 3minutes.

The only way to stop Pakistani missiles at all would mean India having to kill the missiles BEFORE they are launched. THAAD, PAC-3, ARROW, etc are all designed to work AFTER the missile is launched.

Salaam

Many experts simply do not think that an effective NMD shield can be developed in the foreseeable future. It is predicted that the enemy could easily disrupt this system by paralyzing its electronic systems; or by using cruise missiles to flood the anti-ballistic missile shields; or simply overwhelm the defences by a saturation raid with large numbers of missiles.

Overall, its an expensive system that does not have a fool proof system.....Pakistan should concentrate primarily on long range stand off missiles...i.e. Raad...Babur etc....and concentrate alot more on electronic warfare technology - this should reduce the effectiveness of any ABM system.
