Partition Reality

Sid said:
I was talking about 'Political Institutions' and not Army related ones; since most of British Indian army recruits were from areas that became Pakistan. That is why there's more of a prevalent military mindset in Pakistan than political.

This is a ridiculous line of arguementation- please look at AH Amins own articles on the subject to see who had a more substantial contribution to warfare in South Asia, in terms of numbers. The British Army & its inductees have nothing to do with a mindset. The Sikhs returning from WW1 and 2 joined the Non violence movement for instance!
Paks military mindset is because of its dictatorships and army dominance of power.

Yes atleast Pakistan didnt claim to be one of NAM members with the bon-homie going on. India kept charading its NAM membership even when it was heavily involved with the Soviet Union and then Russia.

India was heavily involved with the US as well. As they say- non aligned.

Partition of India : A historical truth

By Rashid

The New Nation - 11 May 2007

The partition of India is an inevitable part of history. But sadly a section of the educated group does not want to accept this reality. Indian film director Gautom Ghosh is one of them.

He has exposed this in his movie Dekha. The director tried to project in the film that the partition of the Indian sub-continent in 1947 on the basis of religion was a great mistake. In truth, such thinking is against the truth. Bangladesh is, in fact, an independent state since the overwhelming populations are Muslims.

In 1971, we seceded from the union with West Pakistan for the reason that the central leaders denied our right to the socio-economic and political justice. We did not fight against the religion of Islam, but we fought against the use of religion to exploit us. We were Muslims before independence and we shall remain so till our death. We shall continue to oppose all kinds of injustice. There will be no deviation from this goal.

We know that the economic and the political justice have not yet been achieved because of the bourgeoisie character of the rulers governing us since independence. Had not India been partitioned in 1947, we would not have achieved the status of an independent nation. The Bengali speaking Muslims are a nation from any definition of a nation. And none should raise any question about this. So, director Gautom Ghosh made a serious mistake calling partition of India a mistake.

We love freedom, and not the status of a satellite state. We are sovereign and shall remain so for ever. There is no compromise on this issue. Our root is firm. It does not change its colour. Only a branch needs introductory adjective, as is the case with West bengal to prore its derived relationship or link with the original identity.

A movie is the basis of geopolitical analysis?
Some people have all the time in the world!

I agree entirely. How could an Indian film maker think that he could change the minds of an estimated 400 million Muslims in Bangladesh and Pakistan about partition based on a mere film. These Indian really must have a lot of time on their hands. Well said Con.

I was talking about the reporter who "analysis" using the the film as the base of his report.
Indian film makers have all the time in the world, that's why they make films and make sure that at the start of the film they put up a disclaimer.
Just wanted to inform you incase you misses out!

And the experts in Bangladesh catch it and bring out a grand report.
Aah ..they should do something to earn their bread...I can understand.
