In a democratic society, where people of all races and religion live side by side, its imperative that they never ever bring religion into politics. Religion is a very private affair and it should be inside your home and not on the streets.

You don't know me or what I believe in. So don't bloody judge me.

If people believe in religion and care about it, why shoudlnt it be brought up in politics? why is the caste issue and gender issue and ethnicity or any other thing brought up? Why arbitarily only target relgion? Isnt everything else personal as well.

By that account no one knows anyone. We all know others and what they believe in by their words, by their actions and by the first account I know enough about you to form a preliminary opinion.

Pakistan result of Jinnah’s betrayal by Congress: Jaswant
By Iftikhar Gilani

NEW DELHI: Former Indian foreign minister and senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Jaswant Singh has blamed the Congress for the creation of Pakistan by repeated betrayals of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, who was otherwise “totally and sincerely advocating that Hindus and Muslims were two arms of the Indian body”.

In an autobiography titled ‘A call to honour – in service of emergent India’ released on Friday, the 68-year-old BJP leader refers to the “expedient transformation” of Jinnah into the champion of Muslims as a separate nation as “borne of many factors and caused principally by repeatedly feeling let down by the Congress”.

Jaswant Singh stops short of praising Jinnah as a secularist. BJP leader Lal Krishna Advani was forced to retract his praise for Jinnah during his trip to Karachi last year.

However, Singh quotes in his book Jinnah’s famous speech to the Constituent Assembly on August 11, 1947, about “‘forgetting the past, burying the hatchet ...work together in a spirit that everyone ...no matter (of) what community ... (or) colour, caste or creed, is first, second and last a citizen of this State with equal rights, privileges and obligations’”.

Singh notes that notwithstanding Jinnah championing Muslims as a different “nation” and becoming the founder of Pakistan, “he rejected religion-driven politics, also those who brought religion into politics.”

“His opposition was not directed against either the Hindus or Hinduism as such. It was the approach and policies of the Congress that he opposed. He scoffed at the ‘holier-than-thou’ and the ‘more-patriotic-than-you’ attitude,” the BJP leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha writes.

He goes on to say that Jinnah was opposed to “theocracy” as central to the birth of Pakistan and quotes in this regard his “noble sentiments”.

Jaswant Singh also blames Jawaharlal Nehru for alienating Jinnah and points out that the drift began 10 years before the partition in 1937 in the provincial elections in the United Provinces, now Uttar Pradesh.

“When it came to forming the government in that state, Nehru turned on an earlier agreement that the Congress and the Muslim League would share office, specifically that some elected representatives of the League would also hold ministerial berths in the provincial government. After the election results had been announced, Nehru went back on the agreement, asserting that the Congress on its own had the required majority.

The League, its leadership, and Jinnah took it as a deliberate and pre-planned betrayal. The divide of the 1930s widened further ... divide that eventually manifested itself in a creation of the ‘political Hindu’ and the ‘political Muslim’, a far different mentality and approach to the ‘religious Hindu’ and the ‘religious Muslim’,” Jaswant Singh stressed.

He quotes Jinnah advocating (“with a skill few contemporaries could match”) that “our Hindu friends fail to understand the real nature of Islam and Hinduism. They are not religions, but in fact two distinct social orders and it is only a dream that they can evolve a common nationality.”

Jaswant Singh writes that “though Jinnah remained willing to negotiate with the Congress some settlement within the framework of a very loose federal scheme, even that plan was finally abandoned” and thus “the dark shadows of deep-seated suspicions and animosities had finally obscured all vision.” In his reflection on Partition, the 68-year old BJP leader wonders: “Why did no one, not Nehru, (Sardar) Patel or Jinnah, nor any other protagonist, ever assess the strategic costs of Partition, or the linkage of Partition with the global consequences of the Second World War? At another level, why did the Congress leaders fail to anticipate Jinnah’s rapidly declining health?”

There we have it. Even though the BJP is probably trying to one-up the Congress with these acknowledgments in this book but at the same time, it is very encouraging that the 'real' history is finally coming to fore for an average Indian to learn about.

I strongly believe that the Sikhs should have their own homeland called KHALISTAN in HINDUstan with new dehli as its capital .

Also the 150 million Moslems of HINDUstan should start a campaign worldwide calling for a seperate state and bringing attention to the horrific atrocities being comittted by fanatic hindu terrorist wings against innocent moslems and christian minorities. Peaceful religions and Hindusim cannot co-exist together. The proud Moslem nations of Bangladesh ,Maldives and of course Pakistan bear testimony to this reality.

hey while we're at it, what have the other ethnicities done wrong? why can't gujaratis have their own homeland, why can't south indians, why can't biharis, why can't maharastrians?

but I willagree - Moslems should start a campaign for a separate homeland..wait, they already have one - PAKISTAN...they should start a campaign and demand that PAKISTAN be their homeland ;) that way, they wont have to witness and suffer "horrific atrocities being comittted by fanatic hindu terrorist wings against innocent moslems" This way, both India and Pakistan will benefit...pakistan will sigh in relief coz they wont have to see the torture that their "muslim brother and sisters" are going through in the horrible hellhole called India...and India will get rid half of its population..allowing it to prosper and concentrate on other, more important things. such as infrastructure, economics, etc..you get the gist ;)

My feelings exactly.

Earlier on in this thread, there was the feeling expressed that Indians want "akhand bharat" and want to annex Pakistan.

Nothing could be farther from the truth.

Gentlemen you are welcome to Pakistan & Islam. We want none of the former and we have had enough of the latter.

Most Indians today are aghast at the antics of Muslim politicians and their insistence on their own rules and conditions vs secular law- what makes Pakistan think that we want more of this?

Keep Pakistan. Keep Islam. We dont need either.

and of course, same can't possibly be said about "Islam" I mean com'on...everyone in the world is either blind or stupid when everywhere they turn, all they see is Islamic jihadists killing innocent civilians in the name of religion.

YOu can't possibly think that Muslims in India are innocent li'l angels..if so, You need a reality check bro!! Muslims in India are just as guilty of everything that's going on as Hindus are, if not more...

Very true. Are Hindus in Britain being questioned? In Canada? In the US? In Germany? In France? Are these Christian countries (albeit with secular laws) tacit accomplices of Hinduism? If not, why is it that only Muslims are being picked up for questioning?
Islam - unfortunately - cannot compromise and live and let live. It has to be the ruler. And in todays world, this will not stand.

Raptor and others. Control your emotions and discuss issues within online etiquettes contructively. We DO NOT condone extremist ideoligies pertaining to any religion.

Further, religious sermons are NOT needed in here as the Partition Reality is all political. If you want to discuss religions open a different thread.
