Paris Air Show 2019 - Thunders in Europe

A Frenchman (@Vergennes) at the Paris Airshow with Images...
Ok guys, today in the morning I went to the Paris air show and saw among many other aircrafts and helicopters, the JF17 of the Pakistani Air Force.

The pilots and other personnels couldn't speak French, but that's just a detail. They were so nice with everyone, always smiling and answering everyone's questions, always with the smile.

Unfortunately,I forgot my camera,so these are smartphone quality pictures, but not that bad. Just zoom on the pictures to see what's written.

I came early in the morning so to avoid the massive crowd that would come few moments later,so much early that the aircraft wasn't yet prepared completely, lol!

Few moments later you could see the cockpit and talk to the pilot. I couldn't take pictures of the cockpit, but everyone knows what it looks like. Can't remember exactly the name of the pilot (with a badass look if I might say),but pretty sure it was "Bilal" or something.

He presented the aircraft and the cockpit, the basic caracteristics of the aircrafts and what it can do,nothing much special. He told me the one presented here was a block 1. The new standard block 3 is still in development. There's another JF17 present in Paris with the Pakistani flag painted on it for the air demo.

He told me Nigeria and Myanmar bought the JF17 while various countries showed interests in the aircrafts, but I guess everyone knows that. Among the countries were Morocco,Malaysia and Qatar he said.

"Ironically" I asked if this was the jet that downed two Indian aircrafts back in february,he told me "yes,a SU30 and Mig21" (no without a big smile on his face) and told he was proud of it.

I think I've said pretty much everything, the pilot and the crew were so nice again,I believe the nicest I've interacted to (much more than the French,Americans,Japanese,Germans).

The pilot in the cockpit even let young children get with him in the cockpit, something others didn't.
I think I'll never ever be so much grateful to him for seeing my youngest son with so much joys in his eyes.

Now,the pictures. Of course smartphone quality as I said above. Zoom to see in details.

Nothing much spectacular if I might say, some things people have already heard or seen.

@Vergennes Thank you so much for sharing :) whats was the people generally reaction regarding JF 17 ?

Generally people were impressed by the aircraft. Obviously many aviation enthusiasts, not specialists,so asking many questions about the aircrafts, the characteristics and such.

Many people didn't know at first the pilots and the aircraft were from Pakistan, but the pilots and others personnels made sure to explain everything, present themselves and the aircraft. :agree:

There was no much indication though that the aircraft and the pilots were from Pakistan,a part the small flag on their uniforms.

I remember though that someone told this was a Mirage, the pilot smiled and said "No sir, this is JF17 from Pakistan".

THAT simply is lovely...Thanks mate! Glad you had a taste of our "friendliness" ...MOST of us are like that in nature (I used most coz every nation has idiots and I am sure we might have some)....

But thank you for the pix! :D

Why after presenting this aircraft on many many different platforms globally, still struggling to get JF17 business.

1. Engine belongs to third party manufacturer (under license). That means you can't technically sell to any other country until unless you have to get officiall approval from 3rd country (with respect to the buyer) Pakistan > China > Russia

- Corrent me If i am wrong here.

2. The label on this aircraft is still "Chinese" so before marketing, you have to understand the mind-set of the buyer.

3. This aircraft is now beyond its actual capacity and limit. Every single concept must have 1 purpose, if you trying to counter multiple purposes with single concept, that idea is considered as redundant in front of experts belongs to anyfield. "Jack of all trade" never be a good option for such kind of business. You have to be very specific about the capability about the aircraft (best in A2A, best in A2G whatsoever). I have discussed this point with many defence experts and pilots too here in the west. All of them agree on my this point. Nobody actually knows the purpose of this aircraft now.

4. The people who are presenting this aircraft is not specialized in military hardware marketing thats what I have heard from many people. There is a huge difference btw presenting something and giving information about something.

5. The most important thing is, any buyer always think before purchasing the hardware especially aircraft, do the manufacturer has capablility to sustain int sanctions in case of diplomatic confontrations with the global powers. Let assume that Malaysia is going to consider this aircraft but before get into dialog with the Pakistani Govt, they will evaluate our strength at the global arena. What if tomorrow, any case Pakistan and US start confontration against each other for any reason and at the end US will go to that extend where the chances of sanctions against Pakistan, what Malaysia will do in that case? esp when sanctions the are specific about the sales of military hardware?

So Rafael got its first foreign buyer after decades so ....

Anyone who has worked in this industry know defense deals are not just products like cars and computers but based on political, economic and other factors

Cheers
