The Rohingya (Burmese: ရိုဟင်ဂျ&#4140 Under pressure from Bangladesh, the Arakan Rohingya National Organization (ARNO) contacted the Karenni National Progressive Party in late August 2002 regarding the possibility of relocating its bases to KNPP-controlled territory on the border between Thailand and Burma. According to a report prepared by Burmese military intelligence, ARNO also sought membership in the Democratic Alliance of Burma, a loose confederation of Burmese insurgent groups now operating on the Thai/Burmese border. KNPP reportedly refused ARNO's request. The DAB also rejected ARNO's application for membership, but has forged a "military alliance" with ARNO, according to the paper. The Burmese also report that ARNO's Chairman Nurul Islam, has received a U.S. visa and is en route to the United States via Saudi Arabia. The facts in the Burmese paper appear plausible. Its purpose is probably to draw a connection between Al Qaeda, which has supported ARNO, and Burmese insurgent groups active on the Thai border.

Some of these razakars were deported to the other world immediately after LA, some big ones will soon be hanged and some small cats are still hiding among others. Some of them peep up in a debating forum without divulging their names and addresses for obvious reason. Most of them identify themselves as BNP supporters.

Because no one is innocent..The moment u attack Myanmar on this , they will point put any human right violation done by Bangladeshis and their gov on minorities like in Chittagong hill tracts...so..u should better shut up and concentrate on providing care to those Rohingyas after all since u are all in on ummah !!

We are a nascent and fragile parliamentary democracy under heavy military influence but we are not ruled by a juna as such anymore. The actions of the government cannot be considered just the actions of the military as the whole of Myanmar supports and hardline stance on this situation. Both pro-military and pro-democracy parties have increasingly come out as being supportive of moves to tackle the Rohingya and even the Burmese exile-media uses terms such as 'Bengali foreigners' to describe these people. Like I've said before, this is not symptomatic of the problems of millitary rule but is a much more deep rooted problem. If you are going to confront the Burmese on this issue, you are not confronting only 'the generals' but the will of the people of Myanmar. I agree that some of the reactions to the Rohingya have been lamentable but then the attitude of the whole world towards the Rohingyas has been lamentable. Ethnic tensions and sectarian violence is not the sole preserve of the autocratic state and the world is smart enough to see this. They can also see that this is not just a Burmese problem.

Myanmar is only now beginning to re-emerge onto the world stage and this is the last thing the government wants for its image. That is why they are taking a relatively soft stance on this problem. If these people derail our efforts at global re-integration then it will only serve to inflame the Burmese people and the problem will escalate. On Bangladesh's part, it has been actively trying to tap into ASEAN and it would not behoove them to cause trouble with its only direct ASEAN neighbour. Delicate times indeed.

I remember the same thing happening in 1992 after the fall of Babri Masjid, hundreds of temples were destroyed in Bangladesh, thousands of Hindus fled to India...But that is ok..since it is fine to kill hindus in Bangladesh to avenge Muslim deaths in India..

Tamils are an implant in Sri Lanka. What the Sri Lankans did against all the efforts of India is commendable. Sri Lankan is rehabing these ex LTTE snakes.

They can always hop over India and have good relation with their Timurid Eurasian brothers via Nepal-Tibet-Gobi Desert-Mongolia, atleast that is what BD think tanks predict.
