ISLAMABAD: The announcement of a verdict in the much-hyped Panama Leaks case is expected in the mid of next month, sources confided to Geo News Thursday, as debate continues about possible fate of the prime minister in case of a decision against him.
It all began in April 2016 with a huge leak of 11.5 million documents from the database of a Panama-based law firm, Mossack Fonseca, exposing politicians, celebrities, businessmen and criminals who had set up offshore companies.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his family came under fire at home with opposition parties accusing them of widespread corruption, after names of PM’s children cropped up in the leaked documents from the Panamian law firm.
On October 20, 2016, the Supreme Court took up petitions by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Jamaat-e-Islami, Jamhoori Watan Party and others for hearing, in an open court, beginning the long-drawn proceedings of the case in the apex court.
The five-member larger bench of the Supreme Court concluded hearing the Panama Papers case on February 23, and reserved the final judgment.
On March 28, some reports emerged suggesting that the much-awaited judgment in the case will be announced on Monday. But sources privy to the matter say that there is no substance in rumours regarding announcement of the verdict and it is expected in the mid of April.
Headed by Justice Asif Saeed Khosa, the larger bench comprised Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan, Justice Gulzar Ahmed, Justice Azmat Saeed and Justice Ijazul Ahsan. It took the SC bench 26 days to reach a verdict in the case.
There is no official word yet on when to expect the judgment. The Supreme Court has institutional measures in place to curb informal flow of sensitive information such as the likely contours of a reserved judgment or the likely date of its announcement.

Woh konsa Judge hoga SC ka jo itnay high profile case main koi casual sa hint bhi dega kisi Journalist ko knowing the fact ke within minutes that hint wud be onair as breaking news on all tv channels, but im 100% sure the judgement is ready and its already written and ready to be announced, its all political delay nothing else, Allah ke hukum ki dair hai bas.

Nahi... Mujhe nahi lagta ....political delay ki wajah koi nahi rahi ab... 23rd March bhi guzar gaya.... Military courts bhi hogaye.. Zahir hai..inhein faisla tu dena hi hai... Daba kar nahi beth saktay hamesha ke liye... Lagta hai ke waqayi abhi faisla nahi likha gaya... Aur wesay bhi...waqayi..is faisla main bhtt saari cheezein hain, technical details hain... Article 62-63 ki interpretation....article 184/3 main kiya hosakta hai, kya nahi?
Ye sab rumors Shahid Masood ne shuru ki theen...hearing khatam honay ke 1 week ke bad kehna shuru kar diya tha ke faisla likha jaa chuka hai... Blah blah ...... Aur roz ye kehtay rahay ke bas abhi faisla aaraha hai... Shahid Masood ki wajah se hum ye samajh rahay thay ke likha jachuka hai aur kisi bhi waqt aasakta hai... Phir hua ke 23rd March ka intezar horaha hai..woh bhi hogaya... We should blame Shahid masood for false expectations aur roz kehna ke bas aaraha hai faisla... Anchors main se kisi ko kuch nahi pata hai..sab apni apni assumptions karrahay hain.... Asad kharal ne tu 1 month pehle faisla bhi sunaa diya..so called leak faisla.. Dont trust these anchors

Aisa tu nahi hai ke unhon ne koi contrvoversial baat ki ho... Date bhi nahi bataayi unhon ne... Bas ye ke abhi likha jaa raha hai... I think, we shoud trust him, with tht... Agar unhon ne ye baat 23rd March se pehle ki hoti..tu shayad ek minute ko doubt bhi hota..lekin ab doubt karnay ki koi wajah nahi hai... Aur aisa bhi nahi hai ke unhon ne koi faislay ke baaray main kuch bataya ho..jo hum kahein ke ye nahi hosakta.. He just said ke abhi likha jaaraha hai aur kuch dino main aayega.. Woh bhi jab poora media mojood ho.......tu aisy main ye baat kardena koi harj nahi hai.... I dont see anything wrong in it

Panamagate verdict expected by mid April
ISLAMABAD: The much-awaited verdict in the Panamagate case involving Prime Minster Nawaz Sharif’s family is expected by mid-April, sources told The Express Tribune.
A credible source disclosed on Thursday that a few judges still had to pen down their judgement .
However, no official cause-list regarding the pronouncement of verdict has so far been issued by the registrar office of the Supreme Court.
All five Supreme Court judges who adjudicated the Panamagate case have been in the federal capital for the past week and are expected to be sitting at the Islamabad registry next week.
The five-judge larger bench was headed by Justice Asif Saeed Khosa and comprising by Justice Gulzar Ahmad, Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan, Justice Azmat Saeed Sheikh and Justice Ijazul Ahsan.
The past few weeks have made everyone, particularly politicians, very anxious as they are on tenterhooks waiting for the judgment to be announced. Politicians’ future course of action depends on the outcome of the judgment.
Legal experts say that the Sharif family might land in hot water over concealment of facts, adding all eyes will be on how the judgment treats the prime minister’s role in the case.
The judges may raise a question about ‘conflict of interest’ in their judgment. “[The] chances of dissenting opinions on some points in the judgment cannot be ruled out.”
The top court reserved the verdict on February 23 with lead judge Asif Saeed Khosa observing that a short order was not possible due to the sensitivity of the case.
It is learnt that judges on the bench are giving their individual input in writing, keeping in view the importance of the case.”Normally, one judge writes [a] judgment and his fellow judges endorse it. Here, every member of the larger bench is writing his own note,” sources said. To keep things airtight, a member of the bench is reportedly writing the judgment on his personal laptop.
