On 27 December 2019, Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAC) inaugurated a new integration facility aimed at installing, testing and qualifying onboard electronics and weapons to the JF-17 Thunder.

The integration facility will work under PAC’s Avionics Production Factory.

In its official press release, the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) stated that the new integration facility would allow it to “integrate avionics and weapon systems of choice” to the JF-17.

Notes & Comments:

With an integration facility at PAC, the PAF should be in a position to develop a custom subsystems and weapons package for the JF-17.

In other words, the PAF will not need to select an end-to-end ‘stack’ from only one supplier, which was the case for the Block-I and Block-II when it was left with choosing a package from France or China.

Moving forward, the PAF can set-up its own package comprising of a mix of Chinese, European, Turkish, and domestically produced subsystems and weapons. That said, the PAF had already started working on integration work on the JF-17, having added a stand-off weapon (SOW) to the platform in 2017 and 2019.

Though gradual, the integration facility is a sign of the PAF taking more ownership of the support of the JF-17. This facility joins a maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) site at PAC for the aircraft, and an RD-93 engine overhaul capability at Air Engineering Depot 102 at PAF Base Faisal (AIN Online).

The launch of the new JF-17 integration facility comes ahead of the scheduled roll-out of two JF-17 Block-III fighters in 2020. The first two JF-17 Block-IIIs will likely be used for integrating, testing and qualifying air-to-air and air-to-surface munitions as well as electronic subsystems to the fighter. With 12 JF-17 Block-IIIs slated for 2021, it is likely that the first Block-III squadron will come online by 2022.

A dedicated facility would definitely be more efficient. Wondering if this is on the cards

Although they have announced it today, it has been happening for a few years now.

Yes, the article too mentions this:

"Moving forward, the PAF can set-up its own package comprising of a mix of Chinese, European, Turkish, and domestically produced subsystems and weapons. That said, the PAF had already started working on integration work on the JF-17, having added a stand-off weapon (SOW) to the platform in 2017 and 2019."

Great news

The best way to give recognition to Gawadar is build a Aircraft / Tank Manufacturing facility in it. I am of strong opinion that we need such facility in Sindh/Gawadar

It will also distribute the engineering base to different cities
More educated people moving to Gawadar area in search of engineering Jobs

PAF specifically mentioned this was an integration facility for JF-17B that will enable integration of "avionics and weapon systems of choice". Made me recall @MastanKhan comments about the dual-seater's production rate and usage for training/strike/EW.
sir one of the best tbing about @MastanKhan sir is that he always thinks out of the box and when i see his comment then i tbink wow its a new idea and a very unique perspective and i am learning alit from his comments. Jf 17 b and jf 17 block 3 would have different veraions according to the newds of the time and now PAF has variety to deal with threat

Great!

The entire Ecosystem around PakThunder is coming out in the open.

Now let us open an under licence production facility for aero engines as well.

@MastanKhan sirjee, looks like a certain industrial MaturityCurve has been reached in Our Aviation Ecosystem!

Hi,

It had to arrive---that maturity curve---. At first---you have to have a product first and foremost---the product has to be able and capable---the product has to stand by itself on its own merit thru general scrutiny of availability and performance---.

The next step is to enhance the abilities and capabilities of the product to make it do the job that you want it to do---. After it satisfies the high standards that you have set for it---it must pass with high grades---.

For it to pass with high grades---you have to compliment your product with the most capable---available and functional easy to use package to increase its operational utility to overcome and succeed at what the enemy has to throw at you---.

See---the BLK B has taken this aircraft towards a different direction---a direction that was not much glorified and known in the past---.

To top that---we have a BLK 3 out of the bag as well---which when properly equipped would be a massive force multiplier---.

So---some very interesting times up ahead---.
