There should be a joint project between Pakistan and Turkey on air-breathing solid fueled BVRAAM with two versions GaN AESA Active Radar and IIR seekers.

problem is we also have an inferiority complex...experts like Shahid Lateef who initaited the project is telling is that JF17 bl3 is far better than f16 blk 52 but we have people here saying no we need f16.
so no matter how good the missile is people will say let's buy American or Chinese.

Well it is about time.... not only for usage on PAF fighters but also as short range AD roles both on land and PNS assets...

Application are quite a lot...we need something potten!

It seems this has been worked on for quite some time. It may have its base on SD10A but as I have been saying there has been chirpings on local production of HQ16/LY80 rockets. To me it seems this is where the need has arisen from. PAF's latest idea to upgrade the M3/5s might well mean these can be used as test beds for the launch pf the new missiles. So it seems that the avionics and weaponry developed in house may well find its way into the Mirages.

I think it has its origins in a chinese system so we will start with that as a baseline. We will progress on from there with help from whereever we can get it.

But do we have any reliable source on development?

It would be a great step though, this should come naturally to our defense manufacturers and it has tremendous benefits.

. Lower investment needed.
. Existing knowledge and on hand experience of creating more lethal missiles.
. Great for developing defense export relations. Fantastic opportunity for getting the foot in the door for larger contracts eventually.
. Since AAMs are procured in higher numbers, something to work on year round and expand our defense industrial base.
. Cost savings.
. Can be sold comparatively easily and again in numbers.

Well, many people will call me names for this suggestion, but if Pakistani military really want indeginious defense systems to be developed by locals, then Pakistani education system, right from kindergarten to PhD should be uplifted, and education should be free and 100%merit based. This will create the real industrial basis not only for military production, but also other fields. Pakistani taleemi nizam ko serparast chahiain.

They should use it with AmRAAMs....

P. S project Azm is way over rated project as of now... There is very little information regarding it perhaps after 10 years there might be some stuff which we can really talk about
