ISLAMABAD: US Navy SEALs were able to sneak into Pakistan covertly to kill Osama bin Laden because of advanced American stealth technology and the Pakistani military's obsession with India.

The leaked report of the Abbottabad Commission said India remained the focus of Pakistan's military "despite a growing American threat including actual border raids, drone strikes, special operations, the spread of a hostile spy network" among others.

"Given the negative developments in US-Pakistan relations in recent years, there was no basis to limit defence planning to only one front in the east (with India), while ignoring the border and airspace in the West," it said.

It noted that apart from tensions with the US, there were also differences with Afghanistan and a developing strategic relationship between Afghanistan and India on one hand and between India and the US on the other.

"All this should have been taken into consideration instead of leaving the western borders exposed to the increasingly 'kinetic' and threatening policies of the US which were directed against Pakistan," the report said.

It said that there seemed to be a "defeatist element" in the defence planning of the Pakistan air force, especially in the acceptance of the fact that it was "not structured and equipped to fight a two-front war".

It also noted that the defence policy provided the framework and guidance for the formulation of the Joint Strategic Directive (JSD) which was the "Bible for the armed forces".

"The last JSD was issued in 2007 and specifically stated "India has been and will continue to be the main military threat to Pakistan," the report noted.

The Pakistani deputy chief of Air Staff said none of the government departments, civil or military, had ever declared the US or Afghanistan to be a direct threat to Pakistan.

And look where it has taken them, instead of poking them with hard questions let them live in their own fantasies. It's gonna do more harm to them than us.

None of this should be of any concern to him, given that all this go with overt/covert consent of Pakistani establishment. And US never had a intention to strike on Pakistani military or govt. Only threat due to US is from public backlash.

Seems surprising, as according to some reports, Gen Kayani concentrated on Afghanistan to the point of obsession. Besides, what preparation was he supposed to do against US?

This is a well known fact. Nothing new on it.

yes, but they don't even realize this fact, they are funding and protecting these terrorists against India and one day these terrorists will turn against them. thousands of Pakistanis died because of terrorism in Pakistan than any other nation.

What a rubbish article, Abotabad almost borders India and if their radars were ready for detecting Indian H/Ws then would have detected US copters too only if they were not stealth ones and that's why Osama felt more secure over there .

So even if had they deployed their assets on their western borders then it would not have made any difference.

1 lakh foreign troops and a 3.5 lakh strong Afghan security force in your backyard totally concentrated on elements that live in Afg Pak region should have been more of a concern than India. There was no official stand towards this threat aspect is the point of the article.

Imagine Bhutan or Bangladesh allowing such a huge foreign force on their land and also raising a huge army in our backyard would have raised much more concern than our existential threat of China and Pakistan.
