Pakistan’s number of coronavirus cases could be much higher than given statistics

How's India's testing ratio going? Or are you still just testing travellers? Test everyone symptomatic then come back here with your crowd sourced lists of patient data.
While some people in India would want you to believe that India has first world health infra however reality is different. India has tested 14000 so far while Pakistan has tested 6500 cases so far.

The symptoms can take up to 2 weeks to show and a person with virus may not even know they have it and pass on to others. If everyone has enough discipline to simply follow basic health guidelines such as wash hands, stay home, keep 1-2 meter distance with others as much as possible for a period of 2-3 weeks, the problem can be solved.

There are millions of people around the globe who have contracted the virus but they are either showing no symptoms or had shown mild symptoms as their immune system have already killed the virus. But no one in the media will tell you this. The mortality rate of this virus is just under 1%.

This virus is only killing those people who have a weak immune system (mostly old people who are already suffering from various diseases).

Media has turned out to be a bigger virus than this corona virus. Shut down media for a month or two and it'll all be all right.

WHO, health experts call for more tests to ascertain quick-fix

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s health experts as well as the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) officials have expressed fears the country’s efforts to control coronavirus could end in complete jeopardy as still, there is no data available on the possible number of coronavirus cases in the country.

Presently, there are more than 1,600 confirmed cases of virus reported in the country but according to eminent scientist Dr Ataur Rahman, who is also Chairman the Prime Minister’s Task Force on Science & Technology, the number could be much higher in the coming days.

While talking to media on Sunday, Rahman urged the government to put all those who are leaving their houses without a genuine reason into lock-up. “Unless we take stringent measures, the situation would remain out of control,” said Dr Rahman.

Coronavirus is spreading like wildfire and even the US seems to be losing its battle against the virus, said Dr Rahman, stressing the number of tests as many as possible.

When asked about the country’s coronavirus testing capacity, he said that at the moment, a few thousand suspected cases can be tested every day but that is not being done.

“We have sought the Chinese government’s help in this regard and they are facilitating us with testing kits and medical equipment, besides sharing their experience with us to help defeat this pandemic,” he added.

Vice Chancellors of Health University and former Executive Director of Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) Dr Javed Akram also called for widening the testing facility and termed it essential to fight the virus.

“We need to test maximum number of suspects of coronavirus and do exactly what South Korea did to restrict the virus spread,” said Dr Javed.

In population, he explained South Korea is less than 25 per cent of Pakistan but it has conducted 0.5 million tests of its total population of 51 million. On the other hand, Pakistan has so far conducted only 2,000 tests while the number of suspected patients could be more than 15,000.

Coronavirus is spreading fast from one person to another and unless we conduct large-scale tests and isolate the carriers of the virus we cannot effectively fight this war, he said.

WHO director general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has also criticised some nations for not doing enough to detect and contain deadly coronavirus.

There has been a rapid escalation of Covid-19 cases over the past week but we have not seen an urgent, enough escalation in testing, isolation and contact tracing which is backbone of the response, he said.

Thats everywhere in the world every country needs to continues testing... test test and continue testing

no sane person can digest the figure of corona virus cases in ind and pak as given by their governments. the population of the two countries majority living in the low socioeconomic group and lack of health facilites and education, lack of religious and worldly knowledge are the major factors which play their role in making subcontinent as ideal environment for virus spread but still it is a fact the number of deaths in these countries are not like that in europe.thank God. majority of pakistani medical experts now believe that the corona virus was circulating in our country at least one month before it became a news in china. look at the stats 14 deaths in pakistan due to a respiratory problem over one month is not a big deal. i am sure there will be lot more but they are not documented.
nature sometimes helps the poor. all the above mentioned factors which are ideal for spread of virus played a positve role. and that is it creates immunity in those people who keep on getting exposed to almost all kinds of viruses and bacteria since childhood. flu and other respiratory infections are so common in our countries that they are not taken seriously. my relatives developed almost typical symptoms about 1.5 months back and we took it as seasonal flu but the symptoms were a bit more severe in some but thank God they all recovered. i dont know what was that. it could be corona but we in pak have lesser resources and no hospital carries out any sort of testing for flu. if all the people in pak and india are tested for corona i think more then 50 % will be postive.

The virus will spread, same as Ebola , until all population has been infected to some degree and developed resistance.
There is no way around it.

You're absolutely right. As you said, sane people will accept this. Meanwhile in Hindustan, all we hear is "no community transmission", "all cases are due to travellers", "no need to test anyone....but we're sure our positive rate is low because of some magic".

You have no clue chief saheb, and they are absolutely right.
Don't you know they have cow mutar vaccine, whole body shielding using cow dung and to top it off : Ancient Vedic technologies from 5000 years ago that can detect all kinds of viruses instantaneously !

Actual cases (infected and recovered) are in multiples of tens currently tested ALL OVER THE WORLD!

It's the same everywhere, only the number of deaths is a more accurate data set from each country. Here in the UK, every person knows at least 5-10 people that have symptoms. No official testing is done unless you are dying and need to be hospitalised.
but there is no doubt that the death rate in europe is worse then many other countries like many middle eastern countries , africa and subcontinent . i had a conversation with a friend of mine who is a pulomonologist in UK. he says that over here people seem to less immune to the new virus as they are living in much safer and cleaner environment while in many other countries living conditions are worse and people have more immunity. almost every pakistani gets flu at least 2-3 times per year since childhood. many elderly do die of pneumonia complications but no one carries out tests to find out viruses. all we say it is a community acquired pneumonia or atypical pneumonia which led to the death.many patients with corona virus die of secondary bacterial infection.

you are right but the virus is serioulsy deadly in europe. i think we should look at the death rates in a country due to the virus rather then the total no of cases to get the true picture of the enemy.

If not controlled, then a 1% mortality rate would translate into 75000000 deaths world wide.
This is a huge threat that is being downplayed idiots and morons who are uninformed and complacent.
It has a potential of reproducing by a factor of 3750. That is if 28000 people have it today then it will have transmitted to 10,000,000 in one month. We have long passed this stage and if not controlled and confronted this virus will have bodies piled up in the streets.

no its different then ebola. it is more contagious but its mortality rate as compare to ebola is less.
