PAKISTAN’S MIRAGES: SPECIALISTS ENDURING OUT OF NECESSITY

If we were to ask anyone here or in the PAF if they would prefer to go on a strike mission in an F-16 or JF-17 vs a Mirage III/V, I think the answer would be the former.

Hi,

Your assessment is incorrect---. It could happen in an inferior air force---and even then it won't---.

Pilots are like soldiers---trained on the weapons designated to them---.

The weapon of choice is the weapon that one has been trained on---.

.
Although, it doesn't make any sense, still I would love to say:
40-50 Rafaels
40-50 Grippen E/F
will look perfect in PAF colors.

.
Your mirages will be used in cas operations at loc or within pak airspace.

You will not risk sending f16 into Indian airspace for fear of losses and the damage to your morale.

That leaves thunder and some stand off weapons

In absence of a long range twin engined multi role fighter like flankers or hornets or rafales your deep strike missions are very limited

Pak has a very defensive posture

In contrast India is heavily laden with deep strike fighters and has a completely different air power doctrine

.
Mirages are way past their bed time , but in a scramble situation they give us vital options

F16 and JF17 , are now carrying the heavy load

And SAM's we got from China have filled out holes in air defence
And with ample , missiles / cruise missile options we have enough options

To have Mirage / F7 etc in arsenal are just bonus options

F-16's will be sent for precisely the reason that IAF goes nuts on encountering BVR armed F-16's

If you that kind of budget ~18 billion$ , MoD will make much better plan for purchase.

PAf is big time shortage of latest fighter jet F 16 are getting older only thunder is new i think PAf has to induct new fighter jet now or later will be late

mirages have surpassed twice there life you cant use them any more wither buy J 10 to replace them to give pilots a new sharp teeths

only airforce is lack luster navy has been taken out of its sleep hope growing indian airforce will force them

too much wishful thinking you have , our only hope is get to either J-10C or Su-35
RAFALE is too much expensive for pakistan @IM Ozair :disagree:
and Gripen is denied by Sweden earlier @IM Ozair ;):enjoy:
i say both of them would do wonders for paf atleast next 30 years we will be fine it is good investment

.
Realistically I would buy used falcons to replace some of your mirages say forty more planes

And then look to add fifty flankers from China now your relations with Russia are better

50 J11
100 f16 mixed bag IE mlu block c block 52
200 thunders block one and two and three

Is a good air force by 2025

For your cash starved military even doing thus will be very very hard and a huge accomplishment

F-16's will be sent for precisely the reason that IAF goes nuts on encountering BVR armed F-16's

It's the only thing standing in the way of complete

F-16's will be sent for precisely the reason that IAF goes nuts on encountering BVR armed F-16's

It's the only thing standing in the way of complete air supremacy by India over Pakistan.

Until the thunder evolves to a aesa equipped fighter with better hammers and weapons you are in trouble

Hi,

People don't understand the difference in utility of a fighter aircraft to that of a bomber / strike aircraft---.

I'm just curious as to why JH7B is much more suitable to replace Mirages as opposed to something like J10C perhaps...I'm no expert and so I was wondering if u could shed some light on the subject.

I know they are for different roles...J10C being multirole/air superiority and JH7B being for strike/bomber

But...as it is with modern jets being multirole, J10C should be able to perform in a strike role. The added benefit in case of J10 as opposed to JH7 could be commonalities in terms of certain avionics with JF17 and possibly the engine(if that's ever changed in JF17 to WS10).

As for ppl advocating for Su35 and what not for strike role...that too would require whole new infrastructure for support and maintenance, which considering PAF budget with JF17 block III and Azm projects going on...might be out of reach.

I agree!
As JF17 becames the main Air Defence Platform, the F16 becames the main attack platform.
It will be them to carry operations inside enemy territory (Your favorit India!)
And thats very good, very clever. PAF is doing a very good aircraft fleet management.
JF17 will replace F16 in Air Defence, and F16 will replace Mirage in Attack.
Thanks

Both jh-7 (FBC-1 variant) and J-8 (F-8II platform) were offered to PAF back in the 90s, and both got rejected on grounds of maintenance (jh-7) and obselence (F-8II).

JH-7 is a maintenance nightmare. The platform is difficult to oprerate and is known to cause problems. From radar development to engine reliability, it has had a troubled history. The Su-30MKK/2 is considered by Chinese a more reliable platform.

its problems and unreliability far outweigh the benefits it may bring.

Hi,

The aircraft that the russians feared the most was the F111 due to its flight capabilities---. The JH7 is the closest copy of the F111 as it can be.

Its designed cability to fly low throughout its mission sets it apart from the J10's, SU30's etc etc etc---. To top that off---it carries almost 3 times the load of the Mirages---. It has a longer range than the mriages.

If the Paf can select and operate the Fantan A5 then stating that the JH7 did not qualify is a lie and misleading by the pak air force---.

Truthfully---the JH7 gives too much strike power to the Paf---and why is the Paf afraid of that---that question need to be asked to the sellouts in the Paf---.
