Pakistan's ad in Wall Street Journal on 9/11

I am sure this is going straight into the list of marketing and banding disasters. The content, tone and timing of the ad is really really bad. Has done more damage than good for Pakistan.
Besides, it looks from the tone of the article like there is very little value(if any) placed on Pakistani deaths.

It's not that the Indian media prints lies, but that they actively promote anti-Pakistan propaganda. So that, even a bunch of predictable comments on a rabidly anti-Pakistan blog get elevated to the status of front page news.

Don't deny the logic of your argument. But I cannot imagine what reaction was expected by the people who thought of this ad. What was the objective supposed to be?

Guys! The world knows that Pakistan is running with the hare and hunting with the hounds. Getting billions of dollars from the much maligned Americans for the so called WOT. Much of those green backs are being redirected to the Quetta Shaura for funding them to carry out attacks on American/Western interests in Afghanistan. In other words, American tax payers dollars are being used to kill American soldiers! An irony of gigantic proportions!

The Americans know this and yet keep pumping in the dollars. Pakistan has got them collared, blackmailing them to keep dishing out those billions for fear of closing the land route for supplies to NATO/ISAF in Afghanistan. A classic case of the tail wagging the dog!

If Pakistanis are so anti American, then why is it that they keep accepting those billions? All the PA is doing is taking mostly defensive action against the TTP. Are they fighting the Afghan Taliban (Haqqani/Mullah Omar of the Quetta Shaura)? Nope! Only the ISAF/America is fighting them. So where does Pakistan figure in the War On Terror? It doesn't! It's just fighting its own battle of survival against the TTP for protecting its own national interests!

The PA is keeping the Quetta Shaura well oiled to take over the reins in Afghanistan once the Americans leave Afghanistan! That's the truth and nothing but the truth! Amen!

So there! Now you know why that advert sucks! Because Pakistan is NOT a defender of the world's 7 billion population! How lame can it get? Jeeez!

.
Ask any American about Pakistan, most of them will not speak of Pakistan favorably.

.
Muse,

I am sure AM will reply in time, but just this...
Pakistanis are smart enough to know that the US is in Afghanistan for American interests, not Pakistani interests. This begs the question: what are American interest? Are they simply limited to GWOT, as they claim, or is there a bigger game afoot?
Certainly, to the extent of fighting terrorism, they will find support from most Pakistanis. However, most people believe there is more than meets the eye. Now people can dismiss it all as conspiracy theories or paranoia but, given other evidence of America's obsession with this region, that's a different debate.

As I review your comments and I invite other fair minded and responsible persons to do the same -- it is undeniable that Pakistani audiences and US and world audiences are not in Concorde -- So what we have is a dueling narratives thing going on -- it's counter productive - Pakistanis and US narrative makes are at odds with regard to political outcomes in Afghanistan - US narrative makers have adhered to the basics "Keep it simple, Stupid", they have associated Islamist ideology, terrorism, the deaths of innocents at the hands of Islamists, danger to the world, possibility of loose nukes, corruption, lack of transparency, constant threat of military overthrowing the elected government, in a simple message -- these have identified the bad guys, they have highlighted who the bad guys and WHY, WHAT makes them bad guys - and look at the poverty of the Pakistani position , who are the BAD guys? Pakistanis have multiple answers, the likes AM and others will point to the civilian government -- What makes the bad guy bad guys in Pakistan?? Again, a multiplicity of answers - Liberal fascists, islamists, Wahabis, corrupt policemen.

So for once, just take advice -- get the narrative right - the narrative must explain, who are the good, why - who are the bad, why- once this is set up, tie the loose ends to the good or the bad

The ad is like-

Aa bail mujhay or mar-
What a joke of an advertisement-

Oh God... per this ad it seems Pakistan is complaining... no, chiding the American people (and not the govt) and even trivializing the 9/11 incident into something very petty and personal.

That "YOUR PEACE" part holds the capacity to turn even common Americans on to Pakistanis there.

Wonder who found such a concept and material for an ad... and then the design, by looks it's more like some election campaign poster - something that people all over the world hate.

.
The Ad was in essence to provide some hard facts and figures to otherwise an oblivious American public, most of whom don't know any other world than what the likes of CNN or CBS feed them. Under the influence of vested interests and other reasons, the media has always been hostile and biased towards Pakistan and some other countries. They can all deny the timings but not the substance. Then again what can you expect from organisations, which can't distinguish between America's most wanted and their own President.

I agree that this may not have been the best way to get Pakistan's message across. After all, praise is only effective if it comes from someone else, not yourself. But Pakistan has precious few friends in the American media and, no doubt about it, Pakistan is horrendous at the propaganda game.

You reiterated the stated American objectives, but didn't really address the substance of my post, which is that America has let their China obsession derail those GWOT objectives in Afghanistan. And they have been paying the price ever since.

The Americans could have formulated a plan to encourage a democratic, representative government in Afghanistan with broad indigenous support. Instead, they heavily favored the pro-India factions and alienated the Pakhtuns because they wrongly assumed they would be too pro-Pakistan.

By confusing two different foreign policy objectives, they lost Afghanistan.

PS. Basically my point was that America could have sold this war as a joint venture, by properly addressing Pakistan's concerns about Indian influence in Afghanistan. But they didn't, so they shouldn't be surprised that Pakistan has doubts about their true intentions.

1. LOLz, Pakistan is not even getting funds from coalition support funds on time.
2. If Pakistanis are that smart then all the Americans are dumbs. Pakistan is making US dollars to be used against the US soldiers and Americans have no clue .... hmmm ... poor Americans again!
3. Quetta Shaura ... Yet another media invention. NO PROOF or anything.
4. YES, Pakistan is fighting for its own survival and your post proofs that there is an entity called TTP funded by some ANTI-Pakistan source in Afghanistan.
5.Pakistan will certainly would love to have a friendly government there in Kabul once Americans are ousted... reason... because we have a 1800 KM open border with that country plus extremely complex social ties between people on the both sides of that border.
6. Yes, It is truth as because YOU are saying so! This makes it universal truth. huh
7. Don't know about 7 billion of the world mass but certainly 1 billion Indian must thankful to Pakistan for fighting against terrorism, otherwise there would have lot more manipurs, Assams, Kashmiris, nagalands etc etc.

There are two ways to look at the scenario.
1) America dropped the ball in Afghanistan and is now distracted trying to strategically thwart China's influence
2) America was distracted by the war on terror followed by Iraq for about a decade allowing China to grow unrestrained with no strong US policy to strategically clamp down on China's growth. Recent events is indication of the US trying to make up for it.

Either ways, Ad's are unlikely to change public opinion in the US, much like the public opinion is unlikely to deter US foreign policy objectives.

You don't strike me as a person who does not read but here is what I wrote:

I think highlighted what Pakistan must do to have it's narrative have a snow flake's chance in hell:
look at the poverty of the Pakistani position , who are the BAD guys? American govt is not buying ads in Pakistani papers, it's Pakistan that is seeking to sell it's in of view to US, not the other way around - Again , will the single Pakistan position please stand up, is the US part of the solution or a part of the problem?

See, Develpero, somewhere along the line, Pakistan government idiots will have explain why all and how all this ambiguity has helped it
