Democracy and religion do not go together. One demands complete equality of all citizens under the authority of a secular government while the other grants dominant religious segment of society more rights over the religious minorities who are considered second class citizens.

Majority over minority is democracy.

Any group can come up with a book and choose to live by it..that is not how democracy works.

The reason why I assume that islam is best served under a monarchy or dictatorship which is assisted by a bunch of maulanas who will pull out passages from the book and its extractions to dictate what's sahih and what's not.

Assumptions are as good as the next one. So don't go that blind alley route.

And I am telling you if there comes along a better book which has stood the test of time. People will democratically choose that as the law of the land.

Pakistan is a living breathing example of that.

In democracy the political minority is not relegated to a second class status because it is a secular system that grants every citizen equal importance and equal say. There is no concept of a second class citizen. All are equal.

Democracy doesn't discriminate within it's own constituents.

But in religious society where religious dogmas are part and parcel of government those who are not a part of the dominant religious group are relegated to second class status because they are "non-believers". Just look into history my friend.

Islam guarantees equality in exchange for taxes. Even the most hardcore extremists admit that.

And taxation is equal to a Muslims version of zakaat.

Why do you complicate simple things?

All religions, especially the Abrahamic religions are organized. And I say this as a Christian too.

My wife's parents always tell me (they're Pakistani Muslims) that Islam is a complete way of life that every segment of society adheres to. I would say Islam is the most organized, after Judaism.

We are not discussing Judaism. Its a way that a certain people live to. You cannot join Judaism or Christianity for that matter if you are a gentile.
