Flags are no doubt a sign of independence, national pride and a mean to express solidarity. On this Independence Day, Pakistanis are witnessing a new trend in the sale of national flags in capital city. Along with Pakistani flags, some vendors are also selling Chinese flags to highlight messages of solidarity and friendship.
When asked about the reason of presence of Chinese flags on Pakistan’s National Day, Riaz Khan, an old flag seller, told Islamabad Scene that “China is Pakistan’s true friend and we are celebrating this special friendship by selling flags of both countries.”
Pakistanis buying national flags on the occasion of Pakistan’s 69th Independence Day warmly welcomed the new trend and termed it as a symbol of brotherly ties between the two countries.
Chinese nationals in Islamabad were surprised to see Chinese flags being sold along with Pakistan flags and were pleased to note that Pakistan’s Independence Day is also being celebrated with the display of Chinese national flags.
This initiative proves that public fraternity can provide fertile ground to the legitimacy of the CPEC as Pakistanis feel Pakistan-China must share freedom and development together.
More recently, Pakistanis are mindful of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s recent note that “Long-term unity has greatly contributed to China’s economic development, economic development, social stability and national unification.”
