Pakistani Primary Schools Should Teach In Mother Tongues - PTI's Education Policy Short Sighted

Every people whose skin colour is white educate themselves in their own language. Is English the international language in Pakistan only?

I love it how these slaves use the word 'international' to justify their slavery. In every country in Europe, the language of teaching is their own, English is only taught as a foreign language. Nothing is taught in English.

Pakistanis are an absolute slave people, using every lie and excuse to worship the language of the hite master. The most succesful countries in the world; Korea, Japan. Germany, China, Russia and so on educate their people in their own language.

Thank you. This is exactly what I believe also. We behave like we're living in a British colony still. And to see people defend this mentality is just saddening. I have never heard of any person say English is an "international language".

Just look at this mess which I brought up on my facebook page.

There is no such thing as "International Language". These are basically the terms that Anglo Pakistanis and corrupt government elites throw at us to justify their use of English. There is no need of English even in top notch business deals because we can all understand Urdu and we can simply choose to talk in that. Chinese do the most trade around the world and they have to compete at "International levels." Can they all speak English? No. This is merely an illusion that English is required.

You can include Turkey in your list also, along with other countries

The colonial mind set? it was said some 1400's ago, i don't remember the exact sentence, it was said in some context like this, go to china for education if that's what it takes. Going towards a new land may incur learning a new language too to get education from there. It may include learning a new trade in a foreign land. English has to come in at some stage, whether we like it or not.

This is so sad, and some people actually defended this!

When languages and cultures are destroyed by incompetency, you get something like this. Behold the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority's "translation" of Islamabad International Airport.

International = بین اقوامی (Bainul Aqwami)
Airport =ہوائی اڈے (Hawai Adda)

Yes, this is actually a real photo. The CAA actually approved this. Makes me wonder what the average IQ is of the people running this government department.

And this nonsense is not an isolated incident. Just last month, The Citizens Archive of Pakistan inaugurated the "National History Museum" as the "نیشنل ہستورے میوزیم".

Museum =عجائب گھر (Ajaib Ghar)
National = قومی (Quami)
History = تاریخ (Tareekh)

Stop allowing incompetent government departments and bourgeoisie civil society groups to destroy our cultures and our languages. This is not just about Urdu...all our languages in Pakistan are under threat due to ignorance like this.

oh wow, you get on a personal level immediately.
Is that to prove a point, because you cannot prove it through sane discussion of logic and sense ?
Or Is a personal attack your way of discussions?
Calling me a retard satisfies your ego or generally having one of those days when you forget what you want to say?

You are so confused that you didn't understand my post in first place, got off track and now blindly throwing darts in the dark now knowing what you are on and about. Lol whats more ironic is that you are assuming factors about my post through your own confused thoughts, settle your mind before you reply my next post, otherwise i have no use replying to utterly aimless post from you where you have no idea what you are saying. I am talking from an academic perspective, you assumed settling down.

You cannot change stats, it has nothing to do with colonial mind set. Education is said to be accessed from anywhere possible, its said in religion also. why don't you try thinking sensibly for an instant; not everyone gets admission in Pakistan uni's due to merit or any other situation. Secondly, there are better institutions around the globe in terms of academic ranking, laboratories, R&D etc.

You start comparing Pakistan with Korea, Japan, China...you don't even know in what retrospect you are claiming to compare, because there is a huge margin from individual to academics to technology and similarly sideways same for culture to religion to opportunities between these countries. Comparing apples and oranges will not help you.

The countries you mentioned, have a large number of academic students going abroad for studies, Chinese students in Australian universities is one big example. Koreans travel to USA for academics. Why don't you check facts also side by side, it will help clear your vision.

As for your theory of "producing workers", you assume too much and suffer amnesia maybe regarding the topic at hand? Work, working, workers is another topic, If you really are interested in discussing these, then first read about Hamilton Naki to get an idea what i can discuss on this topic before you assume ten more things.

All i read are assumptions about my post in your reply.
Are you always this clue-less when replying because you seem extremely confused, take a cup of tea or coffee if that helps. I feel sorry for you after seeing your reply.

The only person I feel sorry for is YOU....this post is so telling of Pakistan's colonial mindset.

Essentially you're saying we shouldn't compare ourselves to Japan, China and Korea because they're more "developed". Ask yourself why they became developed, when 70 years ago they were in the same position as Pakistan was.

Moron.

Not just primary schools, all levels of education should be in Urdu or their mother tongue.

Studies have shows students learn better when education is in their mother tongue rather than English

.
Archaic concept.... students in Netherlands are taught upto six languages, students across Canada are taught both English and French even though only one province is French speaking. If you have to compete in the world you have to speak the world's languages. It is easiest to pick up new languages when you young.

Ever wonder why Pakistanis and Indians regularly rise to managerial and executive level positions in the west but Chinese immigrants don't? It's because we are taught English from a very young age while it is not true for places like China (which is rapidly changing now). China is heavily investing in English education and kids are now taught the language from a very young age. In my opinion every child should be compulsorily taught Urdu and English + the dominant language in the district.

I agree with your other part in which English words are just transcribed in Urdu script even though those words have perfectly acceptable Urdu translations available. That is one of my biggest pet peeve.

.
1) Urdu is not Mother Tongue of Majority of Pakistanis
2) It's proven that it's grown ups who are slow at learning, a Kid can learn multiple language very easily provided it's taught properly.
3) Problem with Pakistan's education system is they method of teaching not the medium of teaching/

Understanding the problem correctly is half of the solution.

China and Japan have great scholars, there is so much material avaliable online and books in their own language. On my cousin who is an electrical engineer went to china, read a book on some subject related to his field said that book was better than any English he has read.

Pakistan unfortunately doesn't have great deal of urdu material for higher education. Want to buy a book to learn JAVA, then you have to buy Robert Lafore book or use any online tuition(mostly in English).

The urdu model can be implemented with a long term vision, steps need to be taken for students to have material in Urdu, it should be slowly phased, books or research papers need to be translated.

I don't believe, what i just read.
While i do not FULLY agree with what is said, i am not sure why are you so surprised? It do makes some sense and is perfectly understandable and believable.

To start with, lets talk about Japan. They are NOT teaching English at primary level but they are very advance as far as technology goes. Same go for Chinese. Many other countries who are using English are doing much better than we are so first thing, teaching in English is not going to guarantee that you turn out to be a genius.

As for the reason, WHY starting the education in mother language might be a good idea (and i say MIGHT). For the plain and simple reason that no advanced country employs an education system in nursery and kindergarten that makes students carry 6kg bags and learn A for Apple B for Ball. We are essentially SPOILING our kids stuffing them with absolutely useless stuff at an age where they will could have been taught much much more, useful, productive things. Keeping things simple, in mother language may do the trick. Up until class 3 at least the focus should ONLY to be educating the kids humanity, manners, how to be a good citizen, how to be a good Muslim, community work, team work ethics. All that will make them a good person. Once they are a good human they will automatically make good mathematicians and scientists once you start teaching them these things from class 3 upwards.

NO POINT IS STRESSING OUT THE KIDS WITH THINGS THAT ARE USELESS IS MY POINT.

.
A good vision at max but requires alot of planning before going into implementation ...

Urdu + Mother Tongue should be taught in the first few years, then it can switch to Urdu + English. I would support this model.

This will protect our native languages, which are dying out at the moment.

Language skills need to be imparted at early age, so teaching in mother tongue makes a lot of sense. Schools are an extension of learning which starts from home first. I like waldorf type of schools which was modelled after Rudolf Steiner who was social reformer and a pioneer in human development and others. These schools teach only language skills and communication for first five years in school and they start other subjects later on. They do lot of hands on activities and creative play for kindergarten children and as the kids grow they focus on developing their artistic skills and their social and communication skills. Secondary education focuses on developing critical thinking and reasoning.

This model have already divided Pakistan rich and poor. Either Pakistan completely switch to urdu or english should be thought from first class in public schools like PTI did in KP. Since getting rid of English at this point is impossible, next best option is to bring public schools on par with private ones.

I like the way Indians have came up with hinglish. Their version of english accent with easy words and no depth. This is why so many Indians can speak hinglish. Numbers of Pakistanis who can speak English fluently are on 1 to 1 basis much less then Indians. And for that reason every Pakistani who speak english fluently have his own weird gora like fake accent.

No. Go to any country inhabited by white men.In all of Europe english is only taught as a foreign language, nothing is taught in English. English can come in at any stage, but only as a foreign language.

I was in Lithuania a while back, population 4 million, but they are white men. Do you know the language of education is in Lithuania? Amazingly it's Lithuanian. You want to be a doctor, lawyer or brain surgeon? You are taught in Lithuanian.

Exports of Lithuania $25 billion
Exports of Pakistan £20 billion

I take it English is not the 'international' language in Lithuania!

Any need for an understanding of English can be fulfilled by teaching it as a foreign language.

The problem with Urdu medium school student is that they struggle in higher education in Pakistan and aboard. They find it hard to grasp concepts as most of the material is in English compared to China and Japan.

Either HEC makes all universities into Urdu medium otherwise I agree with KPK streamlining the education system . Private school students are flourishing because of emphasis on English alone, their students get into best university in Pakistan and aboard.

HEC forcing Universities in to Urdu medium simply means that you will have Masters degree only in Urdu, Islamiyat or maybe History, We don't have knowledge base in Urdu for Science, Medicine and Mathematics etc. - We have already wasted 7 decades on Half Titar-Half Batair, It's time to switch 100% to English if we don't want to waste another century.

.
Grow out of your colonial mentality please.

Dude, Urdu is not native to Pakistan, It was imposed by British to unify British Raj. Our education system haven't recovered the loss it suffered from British policies. For starter, Punjab's literacy rate even today is less than of 1849.
