Pakistani Oscar-winning visual effects artist makes Karachi look good

I've shown you a picture of him with the Oscar, yet you seem bent on quoting a statement from some random person on a website who says otherwise.

If you go to the site of rhythm & hues studio (who made visual effects) the other guy is seen holding it.
It is a team effort, but no mention of Mr Ali's name anywhere in citation.

Rhythm & Hues Studios :: Features :: Credits :: The Golden Compass

The site mentions the following

Rhythm & Hues VFX Supervisor Bill Westenhofer (“The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe”) earned an Academy Award® for his work leading the Rhythm & Hues team and their work on the daemons, as well as digital set extensions and fluid simulations.

How do you know they didn't get individual, separate ones?

Give me a link where his name is mentioned. If he got oscar, his name will be somewhere. Holding an Oscar won by other does not make you a winner. You already know by now what I am talking about. But you chose to go on and on.

These movies have huge cases, it's not possible to mention everyone, especially when someone is the technical director of the Visual effects team.

Then why do you call him Oscar award winner? How many Indian names do you see in the list. Are they all oscar award winners? The company has two development centers in India, so obviously many Indians will be in the list.

Give me a link where oscar has given Individual award to him.

Also please search the following in google

Mir Zafar Ali + Oscar

You will know what I am talking about.

The movie Golden Compass specifically won the Oscars on the best visual effects category, & he was the technical director of the visual effects team, not some low level person on the team. If it's anyone's Oscar, it's his.

There are many technical directors visual team. There is another lead technical director. Please go through the imdb list. Technical director is not a big shot.

Here is one
Bill Houston Ball .... effects technical director: Rhythm & Hues (as William Ball)

another one
Kathleen Curry .... effects technical director: Rhythm & Hues (as Kat Curry)

Why are you getting so excited for, it's as if you won the Oscar - and are angry this guy won it. :cheesy:

The lead technical director is not for visual effects. There is no effects lead technical director for this movie, they are all part of the team as effects technical directors. There is no team lead, they are equals. And considering that the movie won specifically for its visual effects in the 'visual effects' category, everyone on the visual effects team is technically an Oscar winner.

I agreed with you on that already. Now lots of people worked on visual effects, including the guys whose title does not include effects. All the names are in IMDB. All are winners.
But the newspaper is misleading when it calls him oscar winner. It is the team that wins and usually one leader takes the credit. That leader is Bill Westenhofer.

Did you search for his name in google with oscar winner. What are the top 10 results. All from random pakistani sites right?

I rest my case.

Again, there is no lead on the effects team. So Bill Westenhofer doesn't get to take the credit. Bill Westenhofer was the visual effects supervisor, which is below the effects technical directors in importance & authority.

Here is a list of all the people who worked on visual/special effects - The Golden Compass (2007)
Btw there are more than 10-15 "technical directors" listed in there under visual effects, so please cut the crap about that term.

Here is the winners list for 2008 from Oscars website - Nominees & Winners of the 2008 (80th) Academy Awards | Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences
No mention of Mir ALi, only the 4 other people are mentioned.

The four people named for the awards were obviously perhaps either the leader for the effects or perhaps most involved, etc. Besides the award is meant for the whole teams and individuals who worked on the project not just one (or four) person.

But obviously, as in all matters, people on this board seem to think they know more than the Academy itself. Perhaps according to PDF experts, the academy is wrong to put those 4 guys in there.

Are bhai, those are just the names of the people collected the awards on the stage. Anyone from the team can collect the awards, & those 4 did. Not each & every member of the team will be called onto the stage. Doesn't this picture mean anything to you?

While it is true that he was PART of the team (consisting of 100's of people) who worked on the visual effects and won the Oscar. It is completely beyond ridiculous to say that HE ALONE won the oscar.

Please answer the fact as to why his name is not listed on the academy's website OR why was he not on the stage to collect the award is he was, as people here are saying, the most important person on the team?

Everyone on the team is an Oscar winner for their combined effort, it would be quite ridiculous to have 200 people go on the stage to collect the award, so I presume they selected the 4 people who were in charge of the whole visual effect thing. Sort of like the face and leader of the group.

As for the pic, I can find many many many pictures where people are holding Oscars which they did not personally win.
