LifeStraw is the answer, Sir.

There are various solutions and the Lifestraw can easily be incorporated into a soldier's kit but it hasn't been done so far, primarily due to the fact that having to drink dirty water is not seen as a very big issue. The water is not polluted, its probably collected rain water and thus the sediment. Plus, there are some pollutants that you just cannot get rid off like petroleum products, when jerry cans have to be requisitioned for water storage.

Clean water should be a priority to ensure peak performance from soldiers in the field, Sir, that is all I will say. It should be a huge issue. There are ways to reduce cross-contamination in case of shared containers too.
