I have read the book "Profiles of Intelligence" by Brigadier Trimzi who was the master CI operative back in 70s & 80s. He in his memoir wrote that during Iran - Iraq war in the 80s, Iranian unmarked cargo planes were landing in Pakistan and were taking military equipment from Pakistan especially Tank spares, even Pakistan lend some Tanks to the Iranians too ----- this assistance was provided & controlled by ISI.

Things got more interested for me when I was reading another book "Mossad: The Greatest Missions of the Israeli Secret Service"
It was mentioned by the author that Mossad run unmarked aircrafts were landing in Iran with Tank spares & ammunition -------

is it possible that both agencies may have crossed each others path and coordinated to provide assistance to Iran???

Pakistan has supported Iran a lot in the war. Pakistan would smuggle weapons (given to us by the US to fight the Soviet threat in Afghanistan) into Iran. I also heard that several militias were involved as well. Pakistanis were the few people who did not view this as a Sunni-Shia conflict; we've always stood by Iran (and them too) in times of conflict.

I doubt they coordinated with each other in same way as ISI did co ordination with CIA in Soviet Afghan war.
Both agencies took interests of their nations on focus and helped out Iran separately.
Since Iran operated T55-62 as well as Centurions whose parts were manufactured in Pakistan and Israel respectively so its wise to assume that Western weapon systems of Iran were backed by Mossad Mission while Asian systems were backed by Pakistan. ...........

With all it's stock of USA, how Iranian air force was able operate after 1979 ? There must be some intermediate link to US.

I think the book The Bear Trap by an ex-ISI Brig also mentioned that captured weapons & ammo of Arabs by Israelis in 73 war were shifted to Pakistan for onward delivery to Afghan Mujaheddin. But Israelis dealed with CIA who were incharge of the transfer.

For money, anything can be bought. Didn't we got western tech for our nukes and missiles even though we were under sanctions.

And guess who was the ruler of Pakistan back then. Yes, the same Gen Zia ul Haq Shaheed who some Shias unfortunately to the day loath.

Please avoid sectarian angles to political ideas. I am no Shia and still loathe Zia for the destruction he caused in Pakistani society and the corruption he infused into the military. Stop spreading sectarian hatred if you are no hypocrite in supposedly being Pakistani. It is a detriment to our society.

The cooperation between Pakistan and Israel extends to the days of Zia and started off with the Al-Zulfikar group(and not the Afghan war is people try to paint it). Yasser Arafat was supporting Bhutto and Zia would go to any length to keep him at bay, that included reaching out to Mossad via Jordanian contacts and asking their help for intel on Al-Zulfikar.

And I wonder what was the rationale of supporting Iran against Iraq...Why did Pakistan not remain neutral and now I understand why Iraq hated Pakistan. We should remained neutral rather tried to end the war instead of supporting USA to cause destruction in the middle east and becoming ally of the murderers.

Saddam's invasion was threatening Pakistani interests (Especially when it comes to the situation in Balochistan which was recovering from 70s era Bhutto unrest).

Pakistan's role in the Iran Iraq war actually proves that Gen. Zia was not a bigot (against Shias). Had he been half of the stuff people call him now days he would have at least sided with Saudi Arabia.

The rational is to keep the balance, not let one country totally dominate the other. Second take advantage of the conflict and sell whatever you can to both the fools quietly, they would also keep quite. Many countries secretly sold many weapons to both Iraq and Iran during their conflict to enable them to fight but not win.
