Meet the daredevil driver who traveled 60kms in reverse gear from Passu to Shimshal

Gojal: The road to Shimshal is full of all kind of dangers. It is narrow, winding, very high above the Shimshal River and unpaved. For all these reasons the Shimshal road is considered go be very dangerous. The drivers moving passengers and luggage everyday from Passu to Shimshal, covering a distance of 60 kilometers, are highly skilled, but still they drive very carefully, to avoid any calamity. If the vehicle goes off the road, deaths are imminent.

Nevertheless, a very strange thing happened this Sunday. Mirza Aman, a driver from Shimshal, made history by driving his vehicle in reverse gear from Tupopdon (Passu) to Shimshal. Driving backwards on this road is not a normal feat. It requires nerves of steel and exceptional driving skills. Mirza Aman has both. He covered the distance in four and a half hours.

When he reached Shimshal in reverse gear, the locals stood at the entrance of the village to welcome him, awe-inspired by the unbelievable task.

These photographs by Ali Ahmad show Mirza Aman’s reverse journey to Shimshal.

The road is dangerous

A small mistake on this road means a major disaster

The reverse journey continues

A relatively easier part of the road

The narrow Shimshal gorge

And the resounding welcome by the locals on completion of the reverse journey

Utterly amazing. Especially considering the difficulty most of us have reversing out of our driveway!!!

That it is Joe, that it is.

BUT 60 kms / 270 minutes = 13.33 kms per hour average speed.
In my experience, that kind of average speed is attainable only with maximum speeds of 20 to 25.
In reverse gear? Could any vehicle permit that high a speed in reverse? Could that trip really be done at such average or maximum speeds? Doing nearly 10 would be a big deal.

Those roads are awfully dangerous yet a well coordinated and experienced driver could perhaps pull this off, however from personal experience I have driven a Toyota corolla in these parts and driving straight on was hard enough for me lol.Kudos Joe

BTW Joe: A few days back we had a few exchanges, I said things which were not worthy of a gentleman, I take my words back, you are a good man Joe and the hatchet is certainly buried from myside.Kudos once again Joe.

I am distressed that you took it to heart! On my word of honour, I was being mischievous and it was, from my side, in light heart and with tongue parked firmly in cheek. Please let us forgive each other any silly thing we might have said in that mood. Please accept my sincere regards and respect. To have got under your skin and irritated you is no mean achievement; I must have been really obnoxious.

It is quite alright Joe, I can assure you, you never offended me, on the contrary I learnt something new, I am not ashamed to admit I had to google the term "koan", I guess we all do learn something new everyday.Kudos sir:tup:

That's fine then; as long as the hatchet is buried, and not inside my skull!

I am sure IG police Balochistan had more security at his home than this center .................... this is the condition of people who were supposed to make citizens of Pakistan secure ............. but then again Calls were traced back to Afghanistan so no one in power and authority needs to answer for "How this massacre happened for the nth time". Fcking joke of a country.
