@WAJsal Great stuff. The literacy figures are impressive. Does this have anything to do with Ismaeli community under the Agha Khan laying greater emphasis on the mundane, like education, housing, hygiene, community development, skill training?

Probably those Agha Khanis are pretty liberal. They even drink a shit load. I'm sure @WAJsal knows what Hunza water is.

It's apricot wine btw...

I know. I don't drink. As long as nobody forces it down my mouth, I have no problems with Apricot Wine. Although my suggestion would be to start industry and export it. Hunza Wine - that kinda sounds cool. Maybe @Vergennes could be convinced to import to France?

Do I see a business opportunity here.

They are united as a community and want to give back to the country. You would see most of the Gilgitis as doctors or engineers, or joining the PA. The community is very united and from my experience very tough and patriotic.

I know what it is. Jokes aside government shoudl look to improve these areas and look to give a way for the people to give back to the country.

The inner banniya in you is awakening!

Survival is the strongest human impulse - instinct to trade is flip side of that.
The community base work they do and their results is something the world can learn from. So can the rest of the Pakistan. We need to transfer the power to these people on-ground who can then use the funds properly.

Agreed my friend but you have to first nurture the mindset - that has been done in your parts by enlightended leaders like Agha Khan. Who is going to do that in rest of Pakistan? Maulana Fazlur Rehman or Dr Aamir Liaquat? They have bigger things to roast. Figuratively and literally.

And would I be right in thinking that Agha Khan (previous) was behind the setting up of Muslim League?

I am ready to be your french import partner, but the thing is that nobody here wants concurrency,so I am afraid to see the production being hijacked, everything destroyed and thrown everywhere or even,I would fear for my life.

You can joke, but when it comes to wine,it's a mercyless war.
It's you or them. :guns:

Meet the daredevil driver who traveled 60kms in reverse gear from Passu to Shimshal

Mirza-Aman-6.jpeg

Gojal: The road to Shimshal is full of all kind of dangers. It is narrow, winding, very high above the Shimshal River and unpaved. For all these reasons the Shimshal road is considered go be very dangerous. The drivers moving passengers and luggage everyday from Passu to Shimshal, covering a distance of 60 kilometers, are highly skilled, but still they drive very carefully, to avoid any calamity. If the vehicle goes off the road, deaths are imminent.

Nevertheless, a very strange thing happened this Sunday. Mirza Aman, a driver from Shimshal, made history by driving his vehicle in reverse gear from Tupopdon (Passu) to Shimshal. Driving backwards on this road is not a normal feat. It requires nerves of steel and exceptional driving skills. Mirza Aman has both. He covered the distance in four and a half hours.

When he reached Shimshal in reverse gear, the locals stood at the entrance of the village to welcome him, awe-inspired by the unbelievable task.

These photographs by Ali Ahmad show Mirza Aman’s reverse journey to Shimshal.

The road is dangerous

A small mistake on this road means a major disaster

The reverse journey continues

A relatively easier part of the road

The narrow Shimshal gorge

And the resounding welcome by the locals on completion of the reverse journey
