What's new

Pakistani corner

The history of Pakistani interest into nuclear science goes back to late 1948
Work in nuclear field is different than perusing for weapons, which is a different thing. where does it state that, "He and Abdu lsalam convinced Ayub Khan to start a nuclear program"? don't bend history, state some source or something

One day we will celebrate such festivals in shawal valley. InshaAllah
Inshallah, maybe in a year or so, why not? certainly could, would love to take part in it.

At IAEA, Salam had tirelessly advocated the importance of nuclear power plants in his country. It was his efforts, in 1965, Canada and Pakistan signed a nuclear energy cooperation deal. Salam had obtained the permission from Ayub Khan — against the wishes of Ayub Khan’s own government

Space Programme

Salam was the founder of Pakistan’s space programme as he was responsible for the establishment of the space research activities in Pakistan. On September 1961, Salam approach to President Field Marshal Ayub Khan to led the foundation of country’s first executive agency to coordinate space research. On 16 September 1961, through an executive order, the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) was established of which Salam was made its first and founder director of the agency. Salam immediately traveled to United States, where he successfully signed an space cooperation agreement with United States Government. In November 1961, NASA built Flight Test Center (FTC) in Balochistan Province. During this time, Salam visited Air Force Academy where he met with Air Commodore (Brigadier-General) Wladyslaw Turowicz — a Polish military scientist and an aerospace engineer. Turowicz was made the first technical director of the space center, and a programme of rocket testing of insued. In 1964, while in the United States, Salam visited the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, and met with nuclear engineers Salim Mehmud and Tariq Mustafa. Salam signed another agreement with National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in which NASA launched a programme to provide training to Pakistan’s scientists and engineers. Both nuclear engineers returned to Pakistan in few months and were inducted in Suparco.

In 1960, President
Field Marshal Ayub Khan had appointed Dr.
Abdus Salam as his Science Advisor .[1] Soon Abdus Salam became the head of the Pakistan's IAEA delegation. [1] There, Abdus Salam had, now at the U.N. General Assembly , repeatedly and tirelessly advocated for the support of nuclear energy in his country. [1] And, due to Abdus Salam's significant influence on President Field Marshal Ayub Khan, Salam succeeded to obtain an approval from Ayub Khan, against the wishes of military government of Ayub Khan in 1965. [1] Due to Abdus Salam 's influence on President Ayub Khan, Salam had the commercial nuclear plant near Karachi personally approved, in spite of the opposition against the project. [1] In 1965, Abdus Salam traveled to United States, where in a ceremony, Canada and Pakistan signed a nuclear energy pact with
GE Canada establishing the country's first nuclear plant. [1] Per agreement, the PAEC's engineers and scientists led the construction of this mega-project. [ citation needed] While, GE Canada provided economical funds and
HEU based nuclear fuel.

I confused it, no worries. Nuclear program started before Ayub came into power, escalated during his tenure, yes.
