I think Pak players were fasting today. Roza rakha tha players ny.
Allah can't help, only struggle counts but unfortunately Nation is too much religious.
Shame match.
7 margin is too much.
Believe me, Australia was in the mood for 15 Goals, We even can't get a single penalty corner.
Very shame

We cant even sustain our supremacy in fields we were good in leave alone mastering others. No wonder why indian subcontinent cant win more medals.

And look at the irony when we fight with each other calling ourselves a superior/martial race.

I still remember the Commonwealth Games Gold Medal drubbing. India lost by 0-8. Aussie team is the fittest and fastest. They ll get the gold in Olympics.

Asian style of hockey is DEAD.
It died with the introduction of artificial turf.On grass the game's were slow paced and greater importance was given on stick work while on the artificial turf it's a fast paced game with more emphasis on team work.
And we never used cheap tricks like intentional fouls, corners and penalties which the Europeans brought into the game.

I wouldn't call them cheap tricks.

There is no harm in learning from the Europeans teams, its always good to incorporate something that is working for them into our style of hockey.

soo freaking fast they out ran us in every step their defence was flawless not on penalty corner and guess what we score in penalty corners our field goal ratio suck and they didnt give us the opportunity what happened to asia we used to rule this game looks like really asian style is not working we mover fast for aggressive goaling and that leaves our defence weak whereas australia who is faster then us gets the ball and uses the weakness in defence as an advantage to goal kudos to the keeper who save the score from going into double figures

Australia's men's hockey team thrash Pakistan

THE Big Dog was barking and the Kookaburras got their smile back after Australia stormed into the Olympic hockey semi-finals today.

Ric Charlesworth's world champion Kookaburras left the doubts created by two chastening draws behind them to give Pakistan a 7-0 spanking that allowed Australia to finish top of their pool.

Australia's house is suddenly in order and perhaps even all the better for a couple of burst pipes which now appear to have been fixed.

Australia will play world number two and Olympic champion Germany in the semi-finals on Friday in a match worthy of of a gold medal shootout.

Australia - as has been the case all tournament - were quickly into stride with two goals in the first six minutes but the second half fade out of recent games against Argentina and Great Britain was nowhere to be seen.

Perhaps the most significant event of the day was Chris "The Big Dog'' Ciriello living up to his nickname by muscling in two strong goals.

Melbourne raised Ciriello, 26, whose grandfather played hockey for India, had been under substantial pressure in the tournament given he was chosen ahead of Luke Doerner, who helped refine the art of drag-flicking in Australia and was considered likely to make the team.

Before yesterday Ciriello had scored just one goal but his fortunes changed to give Australia just the pep pill they need before taking on ruthless, mechanical, efficient Germany.

Ciriello puts so much efforts into his drag flicks he sometimes ends up sprawled on the turf and this was the case just before halftime as the ball rocketed in goal past keeper Imran Shah for Ciriello's second goal of the tournament.

He dropped his head in relief.

With his confidence riding high, Ciriello found the net again with a "Tomahawk'' five minutes later, turning his stick around and potting a back-hander that gave Australia a 4-0 lead. This time he smiled broadly. Relief had been replaced by joy and he suddenly a man at peace with his tournament.

Ciriello almost bagged a hat-trick when another penalty flick just cleared the cross bar early in the second half.

Australia has several players in good form including Russell Ford who brilliantly smacked his fourth goal of the tournament in the second half when he swatted a ball on the bounce running swiftly on an angle so sweetly that keeper Imran Shah barely moved as the ball whizzed by his left shoulder.

Liam de Young was in everything early he he pounced on a crumb after a penalty corner and backhanded the first goal, his 33rd in 282 matches for his country.

Mark Knowles, the vetaran of tree Olympics who shone for most of the match, also looks like a man at the peak of his game as he seeks another gold medal to go with the one he won at Athens in 2004.

Australia 7 (C Ciriello 2, M Knowles, J Dwyer, R Ford, G Turner, L De Young goals) d Pakistan 0.

Even if we bring our Golden era players of 50s and 60s and put against this Australia on astro turf the result will be the same. On astro turf ball moves fast and old style stickwork is impossible.

Someone said earlier in this thread that Asian hockey is still most attractive. Dont think he watches hockey much. Now Asian hockey (India and Pakistan) is slow, full of aimless passing, poor trapping (forget stick work). No way it can match with the European giants like Australia or germany or Netherlands.

Only way to cope with this is to introduce more and more astro turfs so that players can be familiar with it from very young age. Send the players who are just retiring to schools to train kids. And put importance on fitness from very early days.

Koi nai, players in india and Pak are still more talented then these player...they beat us on Pace and stamina , sad that both country are having problem in adjusting to new playing style...I would have loved to see pak win today....

stamina and pace has always been important for games like hockey

i agree major changes are needed but we need to allocate resources and teach the next generation european style bcz lets face it mud pitch is not coming back its this type of blue wet pitch which is bouncy and faster and we will never win anything if we dont learn how to move fast better stamina and ofcourse the art of passing and marking that style will never work on this pitch where speed and accuracy matter not aggressiveness and shoot

Do you really watch hockey? They beat us in ball control, passing and sometimes in stick work also. Have you seen India matches? National players like Uttapa, Manpreet cant even trap the ball properly. Every third pass of the team is a mispass. And your saying our players are talented. Except Sardara Singh (may be Ignas and S V Sunil also) the players are not even worth mentioning.
