SADIQABAD-Pakistan is an emerging economy of South Asia which offers a lot of potential and opportunities for foreign investors.
PML-N leader Sardar Munir Ahmed stated in a meeting with Vietnamese Ambassador to Pakistan here the other day.
On the occasion, the PML-N leader pointed out that Pakistan and Vietnam are enjoying friendly relations, which spread over various sectors. He said that the incumbent government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, intends to convert these relations into an everlasting business partnership. “It will also not only give stability to mutual relations of the countries but also will enhance interaction among people of the two nations,” he pointed out.
Later, a luncheon was arranged in honour of Vietnamese ambassador.
OFFICIALS APATHY FLAYED
A local politician Ch Mazhar Mehmood criticised the livestock officials for using the government-provided motorbikes for their personal use. He said that the bikes were provided to carry out official works. “Instead of working in the field, the officials remain restricted to offices,” he regretted, adding their indifference adds to the problems of farm owners. He demanded the Punjab Chief Minister, secretary Livestock and RY Khan DC to take notice of the officials’ negligence.

Vietnam and China have a history going back centuries. And Vietnamese grievances are simply too deep for Pakistan to make any simple amends. Talk about bringing Vietnam closer to China shows complete lack of understanding of their mutual history. There is much suspicion and dislike amongst common Vietnamese folk against China.

For us, it is best not to try and jump into something we do not understand. We should continue our brotherly relations with China, and also pursue diplomatic and peaceful relations with Vietnam. But remember, we will side with China regarding tensions in the South China Sea, and this will NOT go well with Vietnam.

Pakistan is an ally of China.
Its okay to have normal relations with Vietnam, but we must give preference to China no matter what.

I definitely prefer China. We must prefer China.

China is popular among all Pakistanis.

Even in Saudi Arabia, the Pakistani expatriate community likes China.

care to explain sir

Since the South China Sea tensions have heightened, America under the Obama administration has decided to mend fences with Vietnam and move forward from the Vietnam war legacy. Towards this end, Obama made a historic visit to Vietnam, the first by an American president in decades.

America wouldn't want to aggravate China further by supplying weapons to Vietnam. It is already creating tensions by supplying weapons to Taiwan.

In this backdrop, it is logical that India is forwarding the American agenda. Vietnam isn't 'milking' anyone. It is the American camp trying to warm up to Vietnam to counter Chinese influence.

BTW, none of this 'sir' business. I am here to learn myself.

You are right, it is about countering Chinese influence.

And what do you conclude with this meeting OP mentioned.

It is OK to enhance diplomatic and business relations with everyone. But not to the detriment of our friendship with China. We will need to be respectful of Chinese sensitivities in this relationship. For example, China will need to be consulted if we want to sell weapons to them.
