But the most recent estimates, according to officials and outsiders familiar with the American assessments, suggest that the number of deployed weapons now ranges from the mid-90s to more than 110. When Mr. Obama came to office, his aides were told that the arsenal “was in the mid-to-high 70s,” according to one official who had been briefed at the time, though estimates ranged from 60 to 90.

“We’ve seen a consistent, constant buildup in their inventory, but it hasn’t been a sudden rapid rise,” a senior American military official said. “We’re very, very well aware of what they’re doing.”
White House officials share the assessment that the increase in actual weapons has been what one termed “slow and steady.”

But the bigger worry is the production of nuclear materials. Based on the latest estimates of the International Panel on Fissile Materials, an outside group that estimates worldwide nuclear production, experts say Pakistan has now produced enough material for 40 to 100 additional weapons, including a new class of plutonium bombs. If those estimates are correct — and some government officials regard them as high — it would put Pakistan on a par with long-established nuclear powers.

“If not now, Pakistan will soon have the fifth largest nuclear arsenal in the world, surpassing the United Kingdom,” said Bruce Riedel, a former C.I.A. officer and the author of “Deadly Embrace: Pakistan, America, and the Future of Global Jihad.”

“And judging by the new nuclear reactors that are coming online and the pace of production, Pakistan is on a course to be the fourth largest nuclear weapons state in the world, ahead of France,” he said. The United States, Russia and China are the three largest nuclear weapons states.

Look, every second week we hear from the US and Israelis that Pakistan's nuclear weapons should be taken over because they think the nukes will fall in the hands of terrorist. My theory is very simple - The fewer Nukes Pakistan has, the easier it is for our enemies to take over our nukes. In other words, it is a lot easier to track and take over 50 Nukes than it is to track and take over 500 of these weapons. Especially if those 500 Nukes are spread over a large area ( as in all over Pakistan ).

So go for the broke Pakistan. Get to that magical 500 count as soon as possible and then some.

Pakistan has enough nukes. To making them think a thousand times before doing anything stupid, you should mount nuclear heads on ICBMs. Or submarines.

They will not find easy 1 or 2 nukes. Pakistan has more than 110 nukes. We have been arrested terrorist (Raymond Davis) and other talibans terrorism who unable to attack Pakistan secret places. Mostly they do is simple basic bomb blasts outside school, hospitals, masjid, and shopping malls, very low attacks.

US is just switching harrassing on Iran and then Pakistan and then Iran and then somewhere. They are losing the tracks.

All these nuclear weapons will not help Pakistan.

Forget 500, even if Pakistan reaches 1000, the Americans will continue to keep violating Pakistan sovereignty with its drones.

So how will you protect yourself despite having so many nukes? Iran has none, still the Americans will think twice before using Predators to actually attack any target inside Iran.

They have he second largest oil reserves, they can do barter trade with other countries and still feed its people alongwith keep putting its money in its nuclear program.

They have many options, I still repeat, Iran is better off than Pakistan.
