Just unsupported mewlings, deeds unrepresentative or deliberately misinterpreted, or - as in Vietnam - genuine mistakes of judgement from good intentions.
The U.S. simply cannot compare to the deeds Pakistan has committed and not owned up to in the past and the course it has currently set for itself for the future.

We want a positive relation with US but not one where they dictate their terms on us

Let us be clear. US support is to further US national interests ONLY. It is good for USA.

Pakistan should think similarly. And if Pakistan thinks that US support is good for it too, as the Ambassador says, then may be people should stop their fraudulent vilification campaign too. It cannot go both ways as it only makes Pakistan look really bad, and to its own detriment.

The Russian bogeyman is a disingenuous and self-serving claim by Pakistan only, in the Afghan context. Russia will not be in any position to interfere here for a long time to come. And let us not forget India's important role in Afghanistan either. That will become crucial in the months and years ahead.
